May be true for a lot of people, even most people. But there are many biological families where members are abusive or worse.

In those situations, I agree with Andrew Vachss, “It's the family you choose that counts.”

There is a difference between family and relatives. I have some terrible relatives but have some incredible family members.

Nice post... Friends and Family are to be cherished. A common respect for eachother is essential. Built on; Trust, Honesty, Love, Addmitting when we make a mistake or are wrong, making it right, Accepting forgiveness and growing our relationships. In life respect and trust are earned. IMHO

I'm lucky to say that my wife and kids are my core and we all share that same outlook. My oldest son and I have the same tattoo that says "La famiglia prima di tutto". (Family over everything, in Italian).

This time of year is oftentimes a period of reflection. We who have had wonderful family experiences are thankful for them and look forward to new growth ahead.

Some have had less favorable experiences and I can respect their views. If past tragedy or disappointment hasn’t been set aside to grow new branches then don’t give up the chance to do so this time when you have your whole life ahead of you.

G. I hope 2020 brings more exhilarating memories for you and the family and the spirit be with you, my friend.
