AP Store Experiences?
I’m trying to expand my watch collection so last couple of months starting looking at AP’s.
Our AP store in my city closed down just after Christmas. So I flew down to LA and popped into the AP store on rodeo drive to see about a 15202 blue jumbo thin. The sales lady told me the waiting list is currently closed. To be invited on the waiting list, when it finally opens up I need to have already accumulated $200,000 in AP purchases at their store first to qualify. Once on the waiting list it’s still several years out but the buyer would still need to fully prepay 100% of the watch to stay on the waiting list. What are other people’s experience with AP stores? Is this just because it’s Beverly Hills or do other AP stores have similar strict rules? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

The imaginary queue ...
Spending more is 2019. Long gone are the days when you lined up for a watch. My AD is very honest and tells me everyone who spends top dollar gets the hot models they want. My Sales said his biggest customer has spent about 1.2m USD so far and he’s been allocated the 15202 in 2 weeks time. Makes you think what they’ve got back in their safe, right? That boutique is owned/AP partnered by Westime. Same as the RM boutique. That’s how they operate. What’s retail now? Retail plus tax. You’re better off buying from a grey dealer for about 40K. You’ll spend 200K and prepay for the 15202 and then down the road the terms will probably change. It happened to a friend that way with RM next door.

do you get to buy 200k of desirable models?
thats absurd for that watch. just go grey. buying a concept tourbillon self winding at retail has to be the worst |

If I may be blunt, I think it's just their way of telling you not to bother them. Supposedly, they have many big clients and is not hard up for business.

Not only are you very late to the party but your name's not down, you're not coming in.
Hot pieces are not for newbies. |

Go grey for the 15202. Silly to spend hundreds of thousands on stuff you may not necessarily want just for a chance at it. It's a very hard to get piece in 2019 with a premium that's a fraction of that of the Nautilus/Aquanauts.

As others have said its a Westime/AP boutique and is really the only place I haven't gotten exceptional service from AP.

At this point, for us plebians, we have to assume grey prices are the new msrp. Because even if we spend 200k on code 11 59's, Millenaries, and all that other jazz, and sold it to recoup some of the 200k, I bet value of buying a 15202st at retail is far outweighed by the hit you would take on that other stuff. So just considering the financial aspect of it, the extra 20k you spend at a grey dealer is definitely "worth it"

The grey price on the 15202 isnt' as bad as some other hot ref's out there so that would be my route if I were in your shoes

Wow, 200k and no guarantee is crazy. Agree with others. Go grey for 40k.

That boutique is terrible, kind of gives AP a bad name given that it's on Rodeo Drive. Lady kept stating wrong information about certain models, and wouldn't even let me take a picture of a watch I tried - wtf?
