Please enlighten me. Why do they want to leave?
My one trip to Italy was great fun, great food and nice people.
Plus Ferrari is there.

To many people Hawaii is paradise and if you ask the local Hawaiians where they like to vacation they will tell you Vegas. Go figure.

Sometimes people just want a bit of contrast.

You nailed it: you were a tourist and you don't live here, so you get to see only the nice part of Italy: art, food, Ferrari if you like it, climate and people looking to please you in every way because of your money.

Of course you don't get the awful taxes, awful services, one of the worst government and bureaucracy on the entire planet and so on...

It is. The best part is that our son is immersed and his Japanese is fluent now.

From my travel, I would live in Netherlands, Switzerland or Spain depending on finances

I have never been to Germany or Austria. I planned for it this year, but it's not happening.

I used to say "The United States" but now that I'm here I don't feel like I'm living the dream I once visualized. Reality here is differently than I imagined -- especially in terms of healthcare which basically is a money eating machine. Cost of living is not as good as it used to be and the food where I live is just terrible.

I'd probably choose to go back to Thailand where the beaches are amazing, cost of living is inexpensive and the feeling of freedom is unmatched especially compared to US standards.

I'd have to agree with the food part. Tampa area just disappoints, I rarely go out to eat any more.

This is it - add into that the standard of living one usually affords oneself whilst on holiday vs. at home and it does paint a destination country in a good light compared to the daily realities of living there.

The weird thing is after spending most of my 20’s in Germany I felt more foreign than not after coming home to the UK. Only just started to adjust fully now to life back here.

I do miss parts of it though

Same here, somewhere tropical where I can dive or snorkel daily. And somewhere with the least amount of bugs as Blansky mentioned. (if that's even possible in a tropical setting)

Had a Villa on La Digue a few years back. Absolutely stunning, beaches, diving, sailing, fishing.
Loved it. Didn't mind the Land Crabs or the large yellow and black spiders too much!
The Fruit Bats were a hoot!

Why would we want to move away from heaven?
England. The best place in the world!
The novelty of endless sunshine day after day wears off.
Give me a bright, frosty morning, a walk to the pub, meeting friends for a fabulous Sunday Roast with a pint of Real Ale, in front of a big log fire......heaven.

I'm from Ireland but living in Thailand for many years.
I would love to be able to really live between Thailand and Ireland, travelling between the two whenever I wanted on my schedule, and not travelling around work commitments.

Summers in Ireland and December too for Christmas and the rest of the year in Thailand.
That would be great.

Not as fast as the novelty of grey, wet and cold does!

For us it would be the U.S. then Italy! However, my wife is Croatian and they share similar coasts and border one another!

As someone mentioned earlier, a few week vacation/holiday is vastly different than actually “living” in most locations. Therefore, I’ve never considered another country for residence.

Although, I support the succession of Montana, Wyoming, Utah, Idaho, and Texas, creating the nation of “Paradise”, of which I would apply for citizenship !

That sounds nice, two very different places, and both very green, a must for me. You need to make that happen.

I really would not move from the states permanently. Maybe a second home in the Caribbean, Canada, or Switzerland.

There’s over 5000 princes in my glorious Nigeria.

Could be a brother from another.

I have a second home in Italy. I could live there easily but my kids are young and I need to deal with my petulant ex.

Canada would be my first choice. Australia second.

Though, retirement will probably be in Thailand.
