A visit to Daytona Beach

Quick trip up to a place that I haven't been to since spring break of my freshman year in 2007; a lot different than I remember it, now that I'm a family man!

A lot of restaurants and bars still closed, but otherwise a fun weekend getaway with the wife and our boys.

First shot is during a morning walk so don't think that the beach was empty during the day, but it was not overly crowded either. Social distancing was easy on the beach.

These are strange times indeed. Glad you and the family were able to get away. Things will get better. Keep the faith.

Yeah, Daytona is a great place, yet very different than it's heyday when Spring Break was first there (my friend helped arrange the whole MTV Daytona thing when it first happened).

Am old enough to remember when Ft. Lauderdale was Spring Break central, and that area is VERY different today (far tamer).

Yes, Ft. Lauderdale is definitely high class these days. Daytona Beach has toned it down, which is nice to see (at my age).

Great shots. Thanks for sharing.

My brother is a little further up in Ormond Beach. He went down to Daytona for bike week and never came back.

I use to spend a ton of time down in Daytona Beach shores. I miss heading that direction. Been wanting to take my family that direction, but with the current COVID situation we are just stuck at home. Thanks for sharing the pictures it’s nice seeing it if only in pictures.

Sweet! i'm the guy on the Puch two-speed moped (easier to navigate traffic and 'park' it during Spring Break).

Gotta love those Spring Break t-shirt contests

Have to admit I wish I could have experienced it myself. Lived in FTL from 2007 to 2012. A great place to live, that’s surely outgrown some of its Spring Break reputation.

Great shots Jessie. Living vicariously through your beach vacays mate! I’m heading to Vegas on the 19th and am looking forward to some pool time. Hoping Vegas doesn’t get shut back down...

Thanks Ryan!

Lake Mead for the win, in case some of the pools are closed.

Man, what memories. Was too young in the 80's to make it, but went to the U of Miami in the early 90's. I remember Ft. Launderdale and going on the weekends to The Howard Johnsons, Penrods, and the Candy Store. Great times, would love to go back for one more day!

You’d need a time machine to enjoy some of the beaches...

Leonard Cohen said it best...maybe predicted it perhaps. “Everybody Knows”...the last stanza.

And everybody knows that the plague is coming,
Everybody knows that it's moving fast,
Everybody knows that the naked man and woman,
Are just a shining artifact of the past,

Everybody knows the scene is dead,
But there's gonna be a meter on your bed,
That will disclose...
What everybody knows

I never experienced Spring Break when I was a kid but when I was in Australia on the Gold Coast a few years ago during "schoolies", their version of Spring Break, it seems to have had the same vibe as Fort Lauderdale.
Lots of fun and lots of drunken kids.

I guess a lot of coastal resorts have the same type of thing.

I grew up in Daytona Beach, went to high school there and my mom still lives there. I have a timeshare there now, but never use it. It's an interesting place for sure.

I think Daytona Beach Shores Hotel is the yellow hotel right in front of the young lady's face in the first pic.

Stayed there for the first time as a guest of Sprint for the 2010 Daytona 500, and frequently (including three weeks ago) since. Pretty beach.

I'll let my wife know you called her "young lady". At 36 going on 37, she's (we're) getting up there.

LOL. I turn 58 tomorrow. Returning to Daytona Shores resort for a birthday celebration in two weeks (It was supposed to be TWA Hotel at JFK grrrr).

Tell her that as men age all the ladies keep getting younger. Or some non-creepy version of that. I just crave SAND AND SUN.
