The white-gold setting was primarily selected for cosmetic considerations.

However white-gold is marginally stronger then yellow-gold making it a superior material for setting precious stones.

Very neat :thumbsup;

I’ve been thinking of picking up a money clip too haha

I had a silver one when I was a kid. Then I stopped using cash and must’ve lost it.

I was reading a book about personal finance yesterday, and it explains how using cash can help you save money, because you actually see it go, as opposed with a credit card or debit card

So maybe I can get back into it.

The hinged money clips are the only ones that work. The others just get bent too open when you have a stack of cash and never bent back tight again. When you use a money clip you always put the smallest bills on the outside..its very crass to "show off" cash but more importantly, its never a good idea to flash how much cash you have on you to strangers when you are buying something.

I agree about the smallest bills on the outside, and I quickly noticed you did at as well

Yeah but my mild OCD requires that they all be facing the same way in declining domination too...

I used to do the same thing when I carried cash!

My Mom told me that was for good luck.

Looking back, I think it taught me to be organized and know how much money and I had in my wallet, with no surprises at all.

Always been a jewelry fan. Have several necklaces and rings I rotate. Here are two of my rings with my daily curb link bracelet. All are in 18K yellow gold.

Thanks, I had it made 20 years ago in Hawaii when gold was MUCH cheaper. It is 110 grams. I have a similar link style necklace at 87grams that I bought at the same time.

Cheers, Tim

Been eyeing a 3.5mm rope chain on Sarraf's site. Its the cut length and weight I want. Looks like they are in LA. Has anyone does business with them ? Them seem very legit but trying to do my homework.

Very nice

I keep hearing that gold jewelry is a good investment!

(As in something you can wear for years, sell it if you have to, and not lose money)

Most gold will be purchased by jewelers who will pay "scrap" prices and melt it down. So, in reality, you will lose money unless you keep it for a very very long time.

Well in my case I bought most of my jewelry many years ago so it has increased in value, even at gold buyer prices. I would imagine that on the whole gold jewelry is not a great investment. I bought it cuz I like the shiny stuff

I have traded pieces in the past to get other things made, but intend to keep everything at this point. Enjoy it while I can. Cheers

I haven’t done business with them, but it looks like they offer a variety of different things

Had this ring made about two years ago. Its 14K yellow gold with a Siberian Nephrite Jade cabochon. Bought the stone from a cutter and sent it out to have the ring made. Great daily wear ring.

Good point

Kind of like a datejust vs a Daytona

Recently I’ve found it hard to admit that u like shiny stuff.

But now I admit it and I don’t care what others think.

We all like different things and that’s okay !

Very nice!

What does cabochon mean?

Sometimes I see rings that use the word cabochon, and sometimes I see rings that don’t

Is it a certain way to cut a stone or what?

Yes it’s the way the stone is cut. A cabochon is highly polished but not faceted. From what I’ve seen they usually have the domed or rounded appearance. Cheers, Tim

Hi schoolboy, great idea for a thread

Like my rings and bracelets.

My bracelet choice has evolved over the years and I have now got my daily wearer. Perfect size and weight:

Awesome

Even Cartier mentions cabochon when describing the stone they put at the crown of their watches

Hey Tony!

Thanks, I’ve liked jewelry over the years, but have focused on other things. This time around I am trying to get back into it.

I really like the Emporio bracelet, the other thinner one is really neat too

Let’s see a pic of your rings when you get a chance!

Used to wear bracelets, a ring etc...
Gave it all up once I grew up and realized a watch is all I need
