RIP Trek BELTDRIVE SINGLE SPEED

After more then 25,000 miles on this piece of junk steel single speed belt drive bike ,it has finally bit the dust early this am with a broken bottom bracket as well as the rear sprocket also let loose on me climbing the hill over the Ohio Turnpike..

Yes I have more then 25 new bicycle but choose to ride this bad azz work out machine.. Kiss this bad boy GOOOD BYEEE. Can it be fixed, yes, am I messing with it..? NOPE..

So in the am I will be riding a bike I own that has ZERO Miles on it with "TUBULAR WHEELS" that I have never ever logged one single mile on.. So I am curious on how the feel is with a set of TUBULARS...

Never had one. But always carried a patch kit and tools for a clincher puncture.

So now you can simply swap out the entire wheel from your following support car...

25 new bikes? You’re all set to sponsor a pro-team, at least a continental if not world tour.

So this am I rode the roads at 0500am with another cyclist with my new bike 34 miles and averaged 19.9 MPH with a decent wind. Not many guys my buddies and my age can do this at OLD COOT AGE...

How thick is the rubber that meets the road on a tubular? My understanding is they are fairly thin on the racing rims.

These $150.00 Vitoria Tubular Race Lites are 22MM Wide and 140 PSI.... I never rode on a Tubular until this am and there sure is quite a difference in response and feel from a Tubular then a Clincher witch all I have ever rode before...

Also those Reynolds Wheels with Ceramic bearings are something else...

140psi? You would’ve eclipsed 20mph had you dropped that down to 100-ish.

Yep. Velodromes are the only place for pressures that high.

Wouldn’t higher pressure put less rubber in contact with the road, thereby reducing interface resistance?

Depends on the tire. There’s not a whole lot of difference where the rubber meets the road when comparing tubular to clincher.

I’m referring to any tire type. The less rubber meeting the road would seem to provide less rolling resistance.

Absolutely your prerogative. But by your own admission, this was your first ride on tubular tires and pressures this high. Riding pressures that high is not only rough on your body, it also yields relatively lower speeds. Some of us are just trying to help you out.

I’ve got boxes for my bike tools like BR has...everything. Most are full and specific to a certain task or event, team or neutral. I don’t like pulling from my bench or sharing between boxes. Good way to forget something.
