I have to ask, those Xlab water system, the $65 bottles, are those CO2 cartridges? What is their purpose? I apologize in advance if it’s a stupid question, but I am a Dorklehead about high-end biking equipment. I thought my Trek Dual Sport was really up there.

They are CO2 cartridges, they're just stored there. They're used to inflate tires, should you flat out on the road.

The bottles for the XLAB are $11.00 each but the cost of the "BOTTLE CAGES" was $65.00 each. These will not eject a water bottle no matter how hard you hit a pot hole. A bike is a bike and as long as one gets out for some cardio, thats all that counts. It is know Thursday am about 0340am and pretty soon I will be out on the new TRUSTY Carbon Singlespeed..!

inhale N2O. Perhaps we've all been misinformed, maybe they're just discarded cyclists puncture re-inflators. Or perhaps a bit of both. Saddle sores can be pretty painful. |

If some of these numbskulls were told, it was 'the thing' to put their underpants on their heads, two pencils up their nostrils and say "wibble"..the parks would be full of discarded pants and pencils.

I’ve never heard of such a thing, but I’m in the animal care industry, and if people are “doing Whippets,” they need to seek out professional help.

Trek district full carbon
Well this thread did originally start out about my Steel Single Speed Belt Drive Bike biting the dust and just a update . It was not only the bottom bracket witch is easily replaced but the entire rear wheel drive cog also crapped out on me.
So not wanting to use any of my "GOOD" Bikes as beater bikes I have moved this bike pictured here into beater status as of this am. This bike is 8 years old and never once had I ever rode it knowing it was quite rare being only made for one year but hell with it and this am it made its maiden voyage out at 4am. This is also a single speed belt drive but this one is full carbon and super super light weight. The only thing I did do to it was put a $575.00 Italian Road racing seat on it by SELLE.. I also swapped out cheap trek bar tape and put some lime green LIZZARD SKIN BAR Tape on that I feel is the best you can buy. 3.5mm. I did also put a set of Continental 4000 All Season Tires too.. i'm assuming you have a torque wrench. check the bolts on the face place of that stem. maybe it's angle of picture, but it looks like they're tilted somewhat downwards. especially when looking at current setup vs setup on the previous page (and the stem has been swapped out).

Yes before I rode the bike that was the position when i got it back from the shop for wrapping tape etc and it is not aggressive enough for me as i love my bars turned down like that because the only place I ever ride a bike is in the drops. They are surely very tight its just i moved them to how i want them and you are very observant for sure..:) |

Maybe I missed it somewhere in this thread, but is the Trek Beltdrive Single Speed repairable? If it is, it seems like a few buck in repairs would keep it in the rotation. After 25,000 miles, I’d be very sentimentally attached to the bike and would want to keep it operational.

Oh I am not going to get rid of it as I have had it for quite some time.. The bottom bracket is no problem but I would need to find another exact duplicate rear wheel off of another Trek like this as the hub is enclosed and do not think that can be fixed.. Yes it has well over 25k miles and also been thrown off of it a few times to with bruises and scars to show..:) Racoon took me at at about 22MPH and ended up in a ditch after skidding on the road.. |

BR, are your everyday routes relatively flat? I live in the foothills of the Cascades and can't do a single speed or fixie - at least not anymore. Today I rode my flat route, which was 30 miles and almost 1000 feet of vert.
Kudos for breaking that beauty out! |
