Does Patek Aquanaut 5065 have an outdated design or is it timeless?

Some friends tell me that their design hasn't stood the test of time but I think it's beautiful.

What do you think?

Considering that aquanaut is all the rage these days, I find the design timeless.

It shows its age but is still timeless imo. Like an early 911 is clearly from the 60’s or 70’s but still gorgeous and timeless. And you can truly see where the revolution, that resulted in a modern 992, came from.

I’d say timeless, but I do prefer the integrated bracelet/strap and the smoother dial on the 5167.

Ahhh yes, the hand grenade PP. Wife had one and it was fine. Sold it for a DJ36 as she's very active and hates having to baby a watch. It looks ok, yet not timeless like Submariner or Day-Date.

In my eyes the 5065 and similar early Aquanauts have looked dated no later than 2007 when the much more refined 5165 and 5167 were launched. Even before 2007 the early Aquanauts have looked more like prototypes than a finished and timeless design to me. In my book the early Aquanauts are very different from an early 911 in that respect.

Timeless classic, but definitely has a vintage vibe.

More going on in that dial. Like it a lot better than the modern version. I have a 5066 and i would not trade it for the new blah version.

When you have side by side the 5065 and the newer 5067, the 5065 looks outdated. The dial is a matter of personal preference, but the bracelet of the 5065 is definitely not as elegant and well integrated.

I like to chime in and give you my personal expression. Tried on 5167/1A and 5164A. This one is perfect in everyway at 38mm, waffle dial turning to patina, bracelet matching perfect to dial. So yes, I love mine! Classic and timeless!

Perhaps the best way to go about this question is this: if it didn't say Patek on the dial, would you still be interested?

It's a marmite watch but I happen to love it. I have one with the bracelet but find it a little too blingy so wear it on the black rubber. I believe Mr Stern used to wear one often. In the future I believe it will be a classic

Every timepieces will go through the stage of "Test Of Time".....

IMHO, I think the Aquanaut passed that stage....

The Aquanaut is timeless design and here to stay....

Otherwise Patek Philippe would have discontinue long time ago....

Looks like the new AP Royal Oak has had hand grenade dial.

Fantastic example.
I agree, the 5065 is absolutely timeless.
I bought mine not too long ago (around 2 years), and really wondered why they were so cheap and didn't get much attention.
That has quickly changed it seems, and whilst I also have a 5167, to me it doesn't come close to the 5065 in terms of overall aesthetic.

I personally prefer the 5065 to the 5167. I like the fact that it is a little smaller, less of a chance of banging it on something. The prices have gotten out of control for a full set in good condition though:(

5066 rather than 5065, but I have tiny wrists, so extrapolate.

I think the 506x watches look brilliant.

I really like the more compact aquanauts as I also have a smaller wrist. But, I prefer the look of the newer style with the integrated strap so I sought out a 5165. Absolutely love it.
