Serial number
Hello,
I bought a Submariner date about an year ago at official dealer in Hong Kong. It's serial number starts with Z. And I realized Z number submariners were produced in 2006. So I wonder that brand new submariner which has serial number starts from Z would be possible? Thanks. |

All new subs now have random serial numbers. If you’re asking if a Z serial can be new, only if an AD had one sitting for 10 years which is very unlikely or someone bought one and stored it without wearing it

It could be new, random means any letter could show up at any place. How many digits long is the serial number?

Of course it is not an older Z serial Sub Date..... that would be before the ceramic 6 digit models that didn't come out until much later.
Your ceramic Sub Date serial is the new random serial that could start with any letter or any number.

Ah I misunderstood question. Thought you bought it in 2006. Pretty sure Z serial that wasn’t random were on non-ceramic subs!? And that all ceramic models were random serial

So a total of 8 digits? If so, definitely a random serial post 2010 production as the 2006-07 Z serial is 1 letter+6 numeric digits.
