I have a few 1675 redbacks left. Hope, it will be enough for my pension... :-))

Show your Inserts

Since I bought my 16750 in August last year I have gone through a lot of inserts. My watch has a nice black insert that may be original. I stashed that one and started hunting for the perfect Red/Blue. I ran across some I probably should have kept but didn’t. Here is #1, the one I received with the watch.

Then I bought a faded blue back trying to get “the look” but I realized that it just wasn’t right for me. Sold for what I paid for it.

Then I bought the FF blue back. Beautiful insert, just didn’t feel right.

This was the last one I bought, which I subsequently traded for the red back I have now. I am finally happy. This was very cool. It wasn’t overpriced because it wasn’t perfect but it was charming. It would have been great for an older 1675 needing a insert later on, but oh well.

Here is the current collection, the 80’s Sub insert was a cool find for a good price. Original Tritium pearl.

The blue faded looks perfect with my lighter colored tritium markers/hands. It makes the red hand pop, and it just seems to gel with the watch.

ive never seen another insert on a 16800 quite like the one on mine. it's a beautiful shade of blue but can look purple or black depending on the light. my 16750 insert is no slouch itself, imho.

Quick question for the group, are people doing insert swaps themselves or taking them in to the shop every time?

If people are doing it themselves is it the old butter knife or is there a affordable recommended tool for this?

I use 2 credit cards. Slide one under bezel followed by the other. Works every time.

For getting the bezel off....Fingernail. A strong one.

As for getting the new insert INTO the bezel....that's a whole other ballgame

I swap inserts out a lot and do it very frequently. I’ve bent one though but not that bad it does get easier with practice. I tend to use a cloth and hard surface. Sometimes I get lucky enough to just use my fingers.

Where's a good source for inserts? I've always wanted a faded pepsi.

Kind of new to this, but hypothetically if one were to buy a black Submariner 16610, would one be able to swap a Kermit insert in (if found of course)?

Glad this thread was resurrected! Love the inserts people! I imagine those half and half root beer insert looks great on your 1675/8 BB1! I was wondering what you did with them after you passed on that beautiful 1675/3 to someone else? Love the new one I might add. OH, and BTW this is the wrong thread but I do like your full gold DD with presidential bracelet and that is a tough choice but i would keep what you have and get that SS Sub you want in a year after some serious introspection and rationalization about keeping both. It's a Buckley dial. Right? Also wear it for a solid week. I am really enjoying your posts! And the pics! When will these people learn? A picture!

I think you did very well on that scalloped 1675/8. Really one of a kind, and that is not a backhanded compliment. It's a beauty! Hopefully one of these days I'll post a service pic! Stay safe gentlemen and ladies!

These come from my other watches, "sold" to family members, who wanted brand new, so I kept them. eg

Genuine question. I have a 16710 Pepsi and bought a genuine black insert. I absolutely love the Pepsi but I would love it to age more/ fade like your amazing examples.
I would rather keep the one I have, love wearing it and hope it fades over the years.

Am I crazy? How long do you think it takes for it to even start fading and are there any helping factors, sun light etc?

Thanks.
