Tried on DD 40 and 36 in YG today

Dropped by an AD today and wanted to try out how YG looks on my wrist. I was actually pleasantly surprised how much I liked it.

First three pics are of the DD40 With baguette diamond markers.

Last pic is the 36 - which I am not personally a fan of this type of diamond dial but wanted to try in for size

Due to the size, I think the 40 looks much sportier.

My wrist is around 6.3 inches and personally I think either could work. 36 might be better with a suit and more formal situations. What do y'all think?

Would it be better to purchase at AD or thru a trusted seller? How much could one expect to get discounted from an AD? That particular DD40 is $39k retail..

i got a bit over 20% and no tax off the same dd36 you tried but champagne dial last summer

you should be able to get around 20% going grey now for both 36 and 40, not sure about ADs though

and for your wrist size i'd probably go with the 36, i think for the 40 you need like 6.5-7" wrists to pull off well, otherwise it doesn't have the classic day date look (imo)

IMHO .. 36 looks better on you.

I think 20% for AD is a tough one. Expect more like 15% off at best if you are a new customer. Expect to pay full retail for more popular dial options! Rolex is hot now.

DD40!!! Looks great on your wrist. It just has the President bracelet that integrates better with the case as well. The diamond baguettes look a lot better on DD40 as well, as they are more rectangular and more subtle. Try a DD40 with a darker dial as well maybe for more contrast. The black dial with diamond baguettes is stunning. Not being a diamond guy, I like it better even than with the lumed markers.

Make no mistake. Your wrist can handle the DD40 very well.

Cheers,
Carl

The 36 looks much better, the DD should be a classic look the 40 looks bigger and sportier. From an AD try and get 15% off list price, from a trusted dealer/grey dealer 20% discount. Let us know how you get on.

DD in YG is the ultimate watch for myself personally.

I prefer the 36 look personally. Although i have not tried on a 40, but endeavor to do so soon so i can do a comparison.

Been drooling over some vintage pieces on the net.

I too have been obsessing about the DD recently, though in white gold with blue dial. Tried both 36 and 40 at the AD (6” wrists) and the 36 felt right immediately. I feel these watches are due an upswing in popularity as they’re as hard-wearing as a sports watch but look right in every situation...

I like both the DD40 and the 36mm watch. Based on your wrist size and the photographs the 36mm looks better. I would never buy a DD from an AD as the secondary market, through our Trusted Sellers, is strong and your AD will not be able to match the price. I believe DavidSW has a couple of 36mm DD's on his site at very nice prices. Go look and see what you find.

I went DD40. Its a bright gold watch. Figure might as well let it be as bold as it can be. Lol.
But seriously felt more sporty

I think either one looks just fine! I have a 6.5 wrist, and choose the DD40. I like that size, as it looks a bit more sporty/casual, which fits my attire/lifestyle much better.

I'd go with 40. I have the same size wrist and felt the 36 was overwhelming. Could be the fact that I own 40 mm watches and up to 42.

All these things are personal of course but I have and love the DD and see it as a dress watch, not “sporting” so I would go with the 36mm.

I’d suggest buying from an AD to build the relationship if the discount is satisfactory.

I have a very similar thin 6” wrist and have a 36 DD in YG. 40 was just too bulky for my taste. I prefer a more classic refined look. Do not buy from an AD unless your getting 25+% off. I got my 36 for 32.5% off. Good luck!

I'll need to go back and revisit the sizes again but like someone else posted, the 36 DD did feel a little underwhelming initially when I tried it on yesterday. Likely because I am used to watches that wear a bit larger. Both my "smaller" watches do tend to wear larger due to case. My speedy reduced wears more like ~38 and AP RO 37mm more like 39-40 due to integrated bracelet. Remainder of collection consists of 42mm panerai, 5 digit tritium sub and Tudor BB in house (probably will end up moving this piece). Some pics attached for reference

I do not dress formally very often from a lifestyle standpoint.

36 = more conservative business man, captain of industry suit guy
40 = fun sporty. Less captains of industry but more... “how u doing”
