Rolex and Space

If you say Space or Moon most people think about Omega and the Speedmaster.

What history does Rolex have with Space, NASA program or Moonlanding?

They have the failed Cosmograph.. funny that Speedmaster relates to racing originally and Cosmograph to space and yet they came to dominate the opposite market niche.

I think a few of the astronauts wore GMT’s personally, and maybe one was taken into space as a spare (?).

Edit: See above !

That was the Strella..

I think the first American watch in space might have been a Bulova (the one with a tuning fork osciallor, kind of like a precursor to a miniaturised quartz movement) on the Gemini lob shots.

Don’t you mean bringing back the Space-Dweller? I don’t think this will happen.

they are known for being rejected for their moon watch ....however people grasp at the fact that some astronauts personally owned Rolex watches and brought them into space so therefore Rolex has a space history.

Pretty much my understanding... can't just give Omega their win and clap politely

At least three GMT’s made it to the moon, two of them down to the lunar surface.

As has been stated several times in this thread that GMT's went up. Speedmaster's were issue equipment that had to be given back upon return. It is well documented that many of the Astronauts personal watches were GMT Masters and they took them with them on their missions and many still wear them today. I find Jim Lovell's the coolest having a US Naval Academy crest on the dial.

Remember many of the early astrauanuts were test pilots and so many GMT’s made it to
Space. Can’t say if they were worn or just taken into space as they were able to take personal items. Nor is there any info on how they functioned. The speedy pro was worn in the outside of the suit and this exposed to the elements whereas the GMT’s if worn at all were safe under the protection in the suit.

I have read that A breitling cosmonaut made it to space but apparently was damaged on touchdown when it got wet.
