My sister, 60, got her first Rolex when she was 15. That was a two-tone 29mm (?) Dayjust with a beautiful ivory textile-like dial. Ever since then she has become an avid watch gatherer (she whimsically buys a couple of new Rolex a year).
hahaha, she buys 2 Rolex a year, and you worry about $ 100. sorry, crying in the wrong place. it s like buying a Ferrari and complaining about the price of gas. |

It looks like a pretty standard practice on all these sites (Bob’s, Chrono24, TRF, etc.) for the seller to add a 3% fee to the price when you pay by credit card or PayPal.

This is why I pay by bank wire and not PayPal.

OP, very sorry for the poor customer service experience, I'd be pissed too. Thank you for the heads up on Bob's. Been on the fence buying from them and will continue to look at other sources. I hope your sister likes the 16570 and that it is indeed in excellent condition. PS don't forget to post some pictures once it's received!

TRF is a bit first-world-problem central... That being said we all like a great buying experience when we are dropping serious money. I think I got lucky my first time around. The seller went to great pains to show in the photographs the slight flaws on the watch. We chatted a few times on the phone (the store owner and not some flunky) during the hold period. He gave me time to think about it. Had no problem with me mailing a check to him. Watch looked better in person. And it was priced more than fairly given the market. After care was good too. I chatted with the owner twice after buying and he was great.

Every dealer on this forum charges a additional fee for PayPal payment. Yes they are charged the fee and they simply pass it on to the customer. It’s been common practice for years so no big deal. The gripe is the OP was told he wouldn’t have to pay it, but when using an automated payment system online what else can you expect?

I think 2nd guy at Bobs got it wrong about the fees..either on purpose...or ignorance..or just wanted to get you off the phone..as in..you are buying a freekin Rolex and chintzing/begging him down for a few bux...so he just said..later bro..ok ..whatever you want...and back to business..
...but..why not right then and there...just do like your sister said..and just buy the watch..w/o all the turmoil.. So.. The 1st sales guy got it right @ 3% for PP..but you didn't listen and persisted with your demand to get em down a few bux..you had to have your way.. But on the Bobs website it clearly states..that 3% is going to be charged for PP..and it was.. So the only way for them to honor the 2nd guys word..or his mistake..is to refund you the fees after the sale..which they refused to do.. It's just 2 incompatible points of view..they didn't want to take the 3% hit..and you wanted them to eat it.. Maybe if they were nice..they would have split the fees w/you..but it is..a business..and not a charity.. And from a business pov..that 3%..is on the entire sale including shipping..and when you subtract out that 3% from the actual profit margin + their expenses etc..suddenly..the profit margin..doesn't look all that good.. Why because....the PP fees..are killing it.. But..anyone in business..that takes Paypal..would rather take another form of payment as PP can be the kiss of death..esp on large $ sales...just see the trusted sellers here.. Personally I wouldn't buy from Bobs..as I don't want to get a watch in that manner..from a company of that sort.. But being in business myself..and using Paypal on a daily basis..I can see their point.. And to those who report such to Paypal or MC/Visa etc..and don't have anything better to do with their lives than pursue revenge on a business..because they are spoiled and didn't get their way buying a Rolex..all I can say is..jeeze..get a life will ya..lol.. |

3% goodwill for your next purchase... Try to haggle that to your next watch.

I got a not-so-good experience from Bob's watch as well, they just did not response most of my questions when I was asking for a watch. Sure I won't buy from them as they did not provide any customer services.

serious question. seems like Bob's gets beat on all the time on the forum (maybe rightly so no idea). No one once has called PayPal on DSW as he charges PayPal fees and quotes the cash price too.
why is that? i have never bought from either, but it seems strange to me In one instance its ok and the other it isn't. TRF makes you pay the fee too when you pledge.

Bobs site clearly state a 3 percent charge was going to be charged. OP knew this when he called and asked and was told no. Why he continued to ask again and again is a bit odd. He obviously caught someone who was mistaken but it doesn’t change the fact he knew the policy going in and had already been told no prior.
Have news for you, go to Chrono24, 99 percent of the sellers there charge a 3 percent fee for PayPal. On $15k watches, this is a lot of money. Crying to PayPal is just childish. Do you cry to Rolex when dealers charge $20k for a $12k watch? |

The first mistake was thinking you were going to get something other than what you got with Bob's. I have read enough reviews on them and looked at the pricing before and know what they are. Same with several other larger internet companies. The watch you were looking for is not hard to source and in the future I would look to our Trusted Sellers here.

After reading all this I think I've earned pics of this mythical beast. Hopefully sis is happy with her 16570. Here's mine in case anyone has forgotten what one looks like. :)
