Did anyone have the experience of break the glass of a sub date?
Helo guys, just bought few days a sub date (gold and blu) and it dropped somehow and broke the glass.
Talking to my dealer to send to service. Anyone had this awful experience and how was the service? Thanks Enviado do meu iPhone usando Tapatalk

I have a friend who cracked the glass on his Daytona. The good news is that you'll get it back like-new, and a new crystal isn't expensive. The bad news is that cracked glass usually also necessitates a full servicing, which is expensive.
And not that it really matters now, but for reference there's nothing to stop you from sending the watch directly to Rolex yourself. That gives you more direct control about what's going on with your watch (and also prevents unscrupulous ADs from adding a surcharge to the bill or redirecting the watch to their own watchmaker). |

Hack the movement now. You are doing the right thing.

Oh no sorry to hear. RSC will be able to have back to near new again. As Sean and Eliot say above, definitely hack your movement (pull out crown fully to last position on a Sub Date) to stop the watch from running if you haven't already.

Happened on one of my GMT Masters.
Regrettably the shattered glass was swept round the dial by the second hand before I could hack the movement and the dial was trashed as a result. Service required a new crystal, dial and hand set as a result as well as the obligatory rebuild of the movement. Came back like the day it was new. |

My Yachtmaster after a fight with a bungee.
Cant remember what was replaced (Crystal and dial definitely). Not sure of cost, as insurer paid for it. |

Thanks everyone for reply. The first crack is really depressing
I made contact with the official service office and sent the watch so they can make the revision. Warranty is kept after fixing. Best news last hours. Enviado do meu iPhone usando Tapatalk

My wife cracked her DJ in the 90’s. No big deal. Anything can be serviced.

I hope so but you know some fragments could damage the movement or something else by stucking the hand, leaving debris inside ... anyway getting paranoic waiting for the service analysis expected for tomorrow Enviado do meu iPhone usando Tapatalk

It will all be fixed perfectly and it will make a great story to talk about when she is 18 years old and wanting her first nice watch.

No worries - it will come back perfect. But hacking the movement is smart to prevent further damage. Hacking (if you don’t know) means unscrewing the crown and pulling it fully out until the second hand stops.
Good luck to you! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

But in the time it will take for the power reserve to run out the additional damage would be negligible and the parts that would be damaged by sapphire fragments (wheel pivots mainly) are covered by the service cost anyway. What you are in fact doing is saving your watchmaker or Rolex a few $$ on parts they don't have to change. So thanks I guess To the OP. Sorry about your watch. It'll be back on your wrist in no time I'm sure. |
