Recommend me a good "watch kit" or "tool set"
Hi
I'm looking for a set of tools I could use on my Speedy Pro (3573.50) once I pick one up. My skill/knowledge level would be considered beginner. I just want to be able to switch straps, deployant buckle, and maybe even add/remove links from the ss chain. Thanks for the suggestions. |

It's nice to have a place to store all your watchmaking tools along with spare parts such as bands, spring bars and magnifiers etc. This little tabletop bench is so handy and makes tasks much easier because it puts the work at just at the right height.
I love mine! |

If pins you need the hammer and pin pushers.

I have a Bergeon 6767F: http://www.esslinger.com/bergeonspringbartool.aspx
It has a round pin on one end for watches with lugholes and a forked tip on the other end for watches without lug holes. It works great on my Speedmaster without lugholes and on any watch with lugholes. My Rolex is an older one with lugholes so I can't comment on how it would work on a modern Rolex. Make sure you get the fine tip - 6767F (not 6767S) To remove or add links on an Omega split pin bracelet get one of these: http://www.esslinger.com/watchrepair...inremover.aspx Makes it easy as pie.

Check out the For Sale section here- there's a few kits on the board right now that might fit the bill for you.

I would not buy a kit because they often contain, well, lets say not the best of tools. A set of screwdrivers is always nice but there are probably only a few sizes you would use. If you can't manage the Bergeon's the French drivers are also decent. With the bracelet resizing tool you need the long pin for Omega although it's a bit thin, or buy push pins, 0.8 and 1.2mm size. Maybe a small plastic head hammer for pushing pins back in. Definitely recommend a tool like the 6767F. Have fun - and have a practice watch.
One other idea - get a plastic head hammer and a Minathor (google Minathor)
