Trade 14060m for IWC Mercedes?

Even typing that title I know this seems dumb, and I'm kinda here for that thought to be reinforced, so I don't go through with this

That said, to defend the idea:

1. I've had the 14060m for a couple years and while my brain considers it to be the perfect watch, every time I wear it on wrist I feel...underwhelmed.

2. I have other Rolex diver watches, including submariners, which give me more pleasure.

3. The IWC is one of if not my favorite color, and my appreciation for this color longggg precedes the recent hot tiffany color period in the watch world. Actually, this is more in line with my color preferences than any of the others in a similar category.

4. I like that the IWC is titanium and, while loud, is probably more under the radar in terms of not receiving unwanted attention.

5. I've been thinking about the IWC for 6 months straight now, so I don't think it is a passing whim.

6. Do I love the 14060m because I am supposed to? It is not a "hype" model like say the ceramic pepsi and daytona are, but it is still a very "hyped" model in the watch collecting world and on this forum, i.e. in terms of being a purist's choice, even an "anti-hype" choice.

Now in the other direction:

1. The 14060m is an icon for a reason

2. I've got a nice 5 digit collection going and this is a pillar.

3. What will future me prefer? Even if I find the 14060m a bit boring now, I have a feeling at some point in the future, maybe when I'm more mature (watch collecting and otherwise), and want to simplify, I will appreciate this piece in a way I can't now.

Yes, I know I can always add, but I really don't want to in terms of managing my collection.

Just throwing this out there for any thoughts. My brain is telling me to hold. My heart is telling me live in the moment and go for the IWC.

On this site, I bet you get a lot more "holds", myself included.

Straight up trade probably not. If the owner of the IWC throws in cash then possibly.

I personally would keep the Rolex but I also understand how a watch may not sing to you and there is no reason not to move on.

Another consideration, the Rolex will continue to appreciate in value. Doubtful with the IWC.

I love that Sub but if it doesn't do it for you, then it is time to move on IMO.

I don't personally like the IWC but if you do, that is what matters and you should move on it provided the trade is fair, IMO.

I don't know the long term relative value of the two, but if you're set on not having both, it seems like the IWC would diversify your collection and add enjoyment. I know the sub is a classic, but you have several. The Mercedes IWC was a relatively limited run and there might not be a ton of them on the market in the future.

The Submariner is beautiful, there's a reason it's a classic.

The blue is a nice shade but it doesn't work on the IWC, it looks like a watch for a ten year old.

That IWC sure makes a statement. I’m not sure what it’s saying. It might be yelling.

I am a big IWC fan but my main issue with them is that they have made many many limited or special editions and continue to do so. As nice as this watch is in a few years it will be just another variation of many IWC watches. So I would not do the trade. I would have probably done this trade if it was an iconic IWC model like big pilot (and if I had other submariner/rolexes).

But at the end of the day if you really like that IWC then that is all that should matter.

What are you other watches? If you have similar sub then trade it for something you really like.

Sell the 14060 since you have others and you aren’t a fan of this one anymore. After you get the cash, wait a bit and if you still feel you want the IWC then get it. I have found that sometimes downsizing is more satisfying than trading.

No date subs, to me, always look super cool in pictures and in some romantic sense feel like more of the “enthusiast’s” choice, but I too, am always underwhelmed by them when I try to integrate one into my rotation.

I’ve always liked the IWC pilot watches, and feel like if you have multiple black dial rolex dive watches, especially 5 digits, it would add some needed diversity into your lineup.

Up to you. I've only got one IWC in my collection. But it is a great watch to wear.

I'm personally a fan of a solid mix of colors (dials, straps) in a collection. The black sub is a black sub. There are a billion of them out there. JMO.

Go with what you feel you'd not stop looking at on your wrist.
