Thoughts on the best Royal oak dial color?

I’m partial to the white/silver but a little biased. Curious to hear other people’s thoughts now that there are more color options (green etc)

IMO a lot depends on what suits *you*, your wardrobe, etc. Big difference between seeing the watch solo and seeing it on the wrist.

You have to see them in person…one will speak to you the most. Oddly enough it’s never the one i thought it would be, in my case! I’m ok with that…

Blue has always been my favourite colour dial and still is. The white/silver dial really does pop in the summer though. A comparison of the two:

I have a 26240 ROC silver dial and was in Taipei this weekend and tried on the black and blue face 15510’s… I was mildly disappointed. I’m sure part of the disappointment in the blue face was the lack of real lighting so often common in boutiques, but for the black dial it just seemed… very dark… so much so that the hands didn’t really pop out much. I also miss the AP on both, and I think I prefer the 15550 although I haven’t held it in person.
Honestly, a bit to my surprise I still prefer silver the most; that dial pops even in lower light.

I have been surprised at how much I like the silver dial. As folks say, it’s dynamic.

This comes I am sure as no surprise but Salmon with the light blue from the 26317 a distant second or perhaps the new dark red/purple QP.

I think the blue is the most overrated. The white/silver and grey variants are the most underrated. They absolutely rock.

As for "rarer" models, I would probably say salmon and the light blue we saw this year.

Thoughts on the best Royal oak dial color?

The blue dial simply isn’t just blue. It’s based blue dial that changes depending on ambient light. It changes from blue, black, slight purple and green.

Here’s an unedited shot of 16202ST. You can see half a dozen colors on the same dial, same light, same lift angle.

That AP blue dial and its psychedelic bracelet is a match made in horology heaven. Every time I look at my wrist, it’s a different shade depending the angle of lift.. It’s distracting as hell.
(Note to self: don’t wear this on Monday.)

But the absolute best dial is salmon. AP salmon is simply fantastic.

Personally for me it's green = blue, then black, then white/silver.

This and Salmon.

In reality, it very much depends on the skin tone which looks best. Salmon is great in pics but I doubt it would look as good on my pale winter wrists.

I am biased! To me the grey dial is the most unique one!

Many fine watch makers make perfect the blue dial but when it comes to grey, I think AP is the king! Depending on the angle and lighting, that grey dial takes many shades………. Yes “50 shades of grey”

You can never go wrong with black. I like the contrast given all the light play with the brushed and polished finishes. Honestly, there are more beautiful blue dials out there (VC Overseas) and I didn’t want to pay the premium for blue (15300 on secondary market) when I wasn’t completely blown away by AP blue. There’s plenty going on with tapessarie dial to not be bored.

I like the lighter blue from the previous 15500 and the ROC with the panda dials. It's brighter than the new blue from the 50th. Also I like the new green as well. I'd say it's hard to pick between the 2. But I haven't seen either the new blue or new green in person yet. My opinion might change if I saw them in person finally.

There is no "right" answer of course as its purely subjective.

I voted with my wallet for these two this year;

(Such a long wait to get this but so so worth it)

And for a 50th Anniversary ROC;

I'd really like a Green dial Royal Oak next year (Maybe Rose Gold) and so pleased that AP will be continuing that into 2023 for the RO.

I think all the dial colors are fabulous. Blue overrated, but awesome. Black and grey underrated, but awesome. White rated about right (gets props, while avoiding hype). Personal choice above all in these matters. Voting with my wallet, one white and one blue, wishing I had them all.
