Dear Bas...

Is your name short for bada$$?

How you do this is behind impressive. This was beyond challenging. So precise. Takes an immense amount of patience.

I’m not suited for it. But I got enough in that I was able to turn the crown. I learned a lot and was amazed by the insides. What a great time.

Though about Bas the entire time. Such an impressive guy.

Looks like you had a great time Seth

I agree. I have a lot of admiration for watchmakers. Without their expertise our mechanical wonders would simply be very expensive paper weights

It was really super.

The level of skill they have is really awesome. It’s incredibly precise and requires serious patience. Getting worked up thinking about it. But fun for the experience.

Watchmakers are in high demand. It's a dying profession since more are retiring than being replaced. It takes a special person for sure.

Looks like a fun class.

For certain it’s a dying breed. So impressive.

I have been reading lots of watchmaking books and watching videos and have been toying with the idea of buying a watch with an ETA 2824 to fool around with. Obviously not considering a change in profession but would be really cool to at least understand the mechanics in depth. Would take this hobby to a whole new level

Great thread and nice to see appreciation for the mechanical wonders of a watch, rather than speculation over future values

There was some guy the other day going on about the forum being boring but this is the type of post that keeps me coming back

I would love to do a class like this - I’ll be looking them up in my area now, thanks to this thread! Anything to recommend after having gone through the class? I’m generally handy but have never even thought about opening up one of my own watches.

Wow, that looks like fun! But I can only imagine how frustrating it might also be. Glad you enjoyed it Superdog. Hopefully Omega supplied the movement you worked on . . . .

That’s awesome. Really must give you a deeper appreciation of what’s in your wrist.

I would love to be a watchmaker for a second career, that is if my eyes hold out by then. Lol.

Right? I just came from that thread to Bas’s disassembly of of a Datejust from March (still going strong).

Thanks for sharing. Looks like an awesome time.

That’s very cool Seth

I’d like to do a workshop like this, but like you I wouldn’t have the patience for it.

Is that a glass of scotch I see in the last picture? Might help steady the hands

Good thread Seth.

Just awesome Seth. A class like that really reinforces what mechanical wonders we wear on our wrists. Great fun!
