116519 Meteorite vs 5167a

Hi all - wanted to get the opinion of fellow PP collectors between the above choice, since their use case is relatively similar - relatively casual, rubber strap watches (but still shows a little flair).

Is one better than the other? Do you think these two watches can coexist in a collection? Or will I end up reaching for my 5167 every time?

Appreciate your responses!

5167 is IMHO a boring and totally overrated watch.

They can coexist. They’re pretty even. I’d prob take the Rolex believe it or not out of the two.

They seem fairly different to me. I don't see why they couldn't coexist in a collection unless its a collection of 2-3 watches.

Just my 2 cents, I hated the Oysterflex strap from Rolex (and I love/own Daytonas), and love the tropical strap on Aqua. Had to flip my OF Daytona a week after I got it FWIW.. but agree I would prefer 5164a over 5167a if possible

I say get both if you can as they both hold value and are great choices. One thing is the Rolex will be MUCH heavier than the PP and draw much more attention.

This. I’ve never understood the appeal.

Meteorite Daytona is much more special than the 5167. I own the WG Meteorite Daytona on OF and it just has such a more significant presence. Ceramic tachometer bezel, subdials, the meteorite bezel. The 5167 is just a three hander. It flies under the radar and is super easy to wear given it weighs almost nothing and hugs the wrist. But I’ve tried it on a few times and just doesn’t feel like it’s worth it.

Can both be in the same collection? Yes I think so, but agree that both being on rubber strap if you don’t have a deep collection, it’s a lot of $ to allocate to two pieces in the collection that have that overlap.

I would consider the 5164a or r. That’s an amazing piece

Exactly my feeling when I was considering 5167 nearly a decade ago. Tried it on and was left unimpressed considering the then 15k ask. It felt like a nicer, high horology version of my Mark XV beater. At the time I decided to get a 5711 for every day and kept the Mark XV for the rough stuff.

Meteorite dials? Not for me.

I like a lot of PP references, although that aquanaut isn’t one of my favorites, and I like that iteration of the Daytona, but don’t absolutely love it.
Between these two though…I’d absolutely choose the Daytona.

No match. Aquanaut is flat, 0 emotions. Meteorite is rare and the dial is fantastic. I love it

Totally different aesthetic. I’d go 5167A but then again I am not a big fan of the Daytona.

5167 was an entry level piece originally marketed to the younger generation as their first inexpensive Patek. Current hype notwithstanding, it is still an entry level basic watch. I would opt for the Rolex, far more going on.

I like both. But I'd go 5167 + meteorite pepsi. Get a bit of diversity in metal colour

Meteorite dials are certainly more special and much more coveted in the watch community right now.
I am not a fan at all, I find them not as legible in real world usage and a frankly, ugly on all the watches I have seen.
On the above I would take the 5167A everytime

I have both, and this particular Patek it is not my favorite one, Rolex is a nice one, very accurate in construction, cool and extremely comfortable to wear, but, it is not even close to a Patek, in this case, I can’t say anything else than Patek is many steps above. Not even close.

I think white gold with meteor is crazy cool. Definitely a heavy hitter, but I'm more of a low-key guy. To wear, I'd wear the 5167 much more. To keep only one, I'd probably pick the meteorite.

To me they are very different watches…style, function, price, availability, etc. to compare them against each other…that said I like reading the various responses as I appreciate the varying perspectives.

When in doubt what to wear I pick my 5167 like 95% of the time. And it has been like this for almost 9 years now despite having a bunch of other watches in the collection.

I have a 116519LN meteorite and a 5168g. The 5168g is more wearable as the Daytona will get a ton more recognition, but the dial is a crazy level of sexiness.
