I really like the new Seamaster, but no way would I trade my Sub for two Omegas. Smart to walk away from that deal.

No way..... even if I was to entertain the thought, that doesn't even sound like a good deal.

I don’t mind it at all. I certainly can understand why some can’t look past the helium escape valve though. Imo the watch packs a great punch for its price point. I actually wore it on my vacation in Cancun last month and everyone had on a Rolex there. I appreciated the uniqueness. Perfect beach watch on the blue rubber (which I’m currently in search of before the summer starts).

This would be the better plan, though I understand the on-the-spot temptation! I'm a diehard Omega guy myself (Rolex too but to a lesser degree). Reality is the Rolex will continue to appreciate while those 2 Omegas will lose 30% walking out the door. Even if you have no intention of selling it's still a big psychological factor in the decision.

NO WAY!

I like the new SMP but it doesn’t have the charisma and charm of Submariner although the Omega is technically better.

IMO the Aqua Terra is a messy looking watch.

As mentioned both Omegas have poor residual value.

Both beautiful watches. but I wouldn't trade.

You could pick up a BNIB Omega SMPC for $3800 and I bought an Omega AT with slate dial for $3550 brand new in November.

No. I'd keep the Sub and buy a blue Omega SMP.

What a good move. Good choice. Do not do this trade. I am a HUGE omega fan. I have the new seamaster 42 master coaxial in blue - it's nice... it is simply no submariner. I have a GMT master rolex and a sub no date. would never do this trade. you will regret it.

No the money is bad, the AT should not be priced any where near retail and the Sub is worth more.

I'm a huge Omega fan. I have 4 Seamasters including the new 300, and a Planet Ocean. I wouldn't take that deal. First, Seamasters are everywhere right now and ADs, (at least mine), are giving huge discounts, lower than what they are offering you.

Second, as was stated above, Omegas just don't hold their value. It's sad as they are fabulous watches, especially those with the new 8500 movements but they drop like a stone the minute you walk out the door.

You made the right call.

As a man who’s bought three Omega’s from an AD my advice is never buy an Omega from an AD!

No way. I just bought one of the new seamasters with the grey dial, got over 30% off. They are doing deals on these watches.

Had it 3 weeks now, but my Submariner still hasn't left my wrist.

I would have laughed at the Salesman and walked out. Factor in the depreciation - $8500 will quickly become $4-5k. Well done for not making a monumental error.

Sure.

I’m an Omega fan (see below) but the depreciation means that from a value perspective buying from an AD makes no sense. I am a sucker and I have a weird compulsion to only buy watches brand new from an authorised dealer, but I would never advise anybody else to do the same. The sensible play is to buy those watches from a reseller at a substantial discount.

Of course if you’re a supernatural negotiator like some on here (I’m terrible) and you can get 30% off from an AD, it’s a win-win.

I like the Omega SMP better due to more technically advanced movement, ceramic dial with subtle wave pattern for visual interest, clasp that is easier to adjust on the fly (helpful in Houston weather), and not nearly as common. I also love the Rolex for the classic styling though.

Everyone talking about the watches value kind of misses the point of the hobby IMO. Value for money the Omega is wayyyyyyy better. Half the cost for a "better" watch.

I was in a business meeting yesterday and of the four folks that came in to present to us, each had on a Rolex.

Buy the watch you love/want. Leave monetary discussions for investments unless you are constantly flipping your watches at which point value retention is much more important. I personally buy mine to wear and build memories with which means the watch is going to get scratched and dinged making value retention discussions pointless.

I think that's certainly a tempting offer but what you need to ask yourself is why is he offering that deal, as tempting as it is.. you have the real winner on your wrist.

Nice of the AD though!
