As incredible as it may sound, your numbers are quite correct. Omega is still suffering in the market place, despite their excellent products

It's not really surprising. When you produce way too many watches and have lower demand, you have to sell them for less, even though arguably they are better than their competition in a lot of aspects. Arguably their new watches are at least 90% as good as Rolex and even better in some aspects, but they are not worth as much.

Well, if you wanted an Omega, you would have bought one in the first place. I have and love my Seamaster. Those two references are amazing, but no way would I ever trade my Submariner for any other non Rolex dive watch.

No I'd never go for that deal although it would be tempting.

As nice as the Omega's are there is no way I'd have made that swap.
In about 2 weeks or less you would have regretted it as soon as the novelty of the two new pieces wore off.

He figured $4K for the SMP and $4500 for the AT and they valued the Sub at $8K so I’d throw in $500 to top off. Honestly it took all of my willpower to not make that deal. Would you have done it?

If an omega salesman wants my rolex, i rather take cold hard cash (with a substantial premium of course)

I wouldn't do that trade either. Omegas are heavily discounted in the grey market and are ubiquitous at ADs. Your Sub is the opposite. Adding an Omega piece to your collection at grey prices, sure why not, they're great watches. Replacing a Sub, never.

There is a reason why you bought the Sub and not two Omegas

Everyone talking about the watches value kind of misses the point of the hobby IMO. Value for money the Omega is wayyyyyyy better. Half the cost for a "better" watch.

I was in a business meeting yesterday and of the four folks that came in to present to us, each had on a Rolex.

Buy the watch you love/want. Leave monetary discussions for investments unless you are constantly flipping your watches at which point value retention is much more important. I personally buy mine to wear and build memories with which means the watch is going to get scratched and dinged making value retention discussions pointless.
No issue with your perspective but the clasp man, way off - omegas microadjust
Doesn’t come anywhere near the glidelock.

Not worth the trade imo. It sounds like a trade you would regret quickly. Not that the Omegas are bad, but it sounds like you would be happier with the one.

No way would I do the deal. There’s a reason why it takes two Omegas to equal the near value for yours.

The new Aqua Terra on the rubber strap is a great, great watch.

It can be had for a bargain on the used/grey market. So just keep the Sub (which IMO is a better watch than the Seamaster anyways) and then get the AT separately. You'll get the same tech & movement as the new Seamaster, but in a different flavour.

I really do think that new AT is great; I want the 38mm white dial version. It's kinda sporty, kinda blingy, casual & luxurious at the same time. It's cool.

It's a bit of a shame that Omega is as undervalued as it is; they make great stuff... however, that means we can get it on the cheap. So let's not complain. :)

What a joke, Sub Dates are easily sold for 10.5 or 11K that new.

Good tactic by the salesman. Pockets $500 for the deal and makes the store thousands in profit. Glad you didn't go for it.

I love my Sub wayyy too much. I'd only trade up for a green or bluesy Sub.
