Icon20 Is the 15450 the next big hype?

I first became interested in the 15450 about a year ago because the size seemed like a better option than the very large 41mm 15400. At the time there was hardly any interest in it, and used examples were going for as low as 12k!!! However in the last six months prices have gone up more than 50% and I see multiple posts a day about the 15450.

Curious to know why the surge of interest in the 37mm => I guess the 41mm are becoming unattainable. But you can still get good 15300s and 15400s for not that much more. Interested to hear thoughts.

IMO anything sub 40mm and its a psychological barrier so no its not the next big hype.

Hipsters at hodinkee are the only ones who truly embrace the sub 40mm's

Look at the 5711 and 15202. One is listed at 40mm and one at 39mm. The AP always gets more people worried about the size and it wears bigger than the patek, but its the specs that people get turned off on.

Im all for buying what fits... but a lot of people look at the size on paper and then think thats what then need and then force it. Not to mention the 15450 IMO is too thick for its case dimensions. Its small and thick vs the larger 41mm with the same thickness which gives the appearance of a thinner watch. It wears different and isn't just a smaller 41mm as not everything was scaled down

Hahahaha, so true.

But I see your point about the 15202 vs the 5711. The masses think in weird ways.

With AP it's all about settling. You settle for a 41mm or you settle for a 37mm. If you want a perfect fitting SS luxury watch you have to go with Patek or Rolex. Patek is hyper expensive, Rolex is ubiquitous.
I think the 15450 is the preferable choice for anyone whose wrist is smaller than 7".

Its mainly due to the lack of 15300s for sale and the 15400 being too large for anyone with a wrist under 7 inches

Every AP and sports PP is seemingly having its dog day in this buoyant market.

not sure but I love mine! much better size than the 15400 IMO. with the case and bracelet of the RO, the 37 wears like a ~39 and the 41 like a ~43--for a relatively thin/dressy sports watch I like it smaller.

they really need to name the size better. Midsize or whatever then yes thats the implication although i wouldn't necessarily call it ladies.

Canada Goose calls their fit for small framed individuals "fusion fit" vs petite for a mans jacket... no one is buying one labeled petite

Men have issues with size. no way around it. its hardwired

I think they could solve all of this by bringing back the 15300 case with the new in house movement.

I can assure you, the 15300 has an in-house 3120 already. But yes, it is the best RO imho.

15450 is the sweet spot for me at 6.5. Looks great and the movement actually fits the watch.

Would the 4302 not fit the case or something?

Had the blue 15300 and it was too big for me. The blue 15450 is perfect for a wrist less than 6.5"

How about the new 15500

15500 is fine for me though. I guess it depends on the wrist size.

My bad, I thought you were implying that the 15300 didn't have an in house. It's true, I can get quite defensive about my watches

I have a little under 7 inch wrist.. (6.75 - 7) and it looks pretty good. I would love to get my hands on a 1.5 link so I can remove one and add that since the fit is pretty snug and during the day it'll get a little bit tighter. But overall, great watch.

Posted in the other thread too but I was hyped about the 15450 for a LONG time because my wrist size is relatively small ~6.25inch and thought it would be an alternative to the crazy Nautilus prices. Unfortunately the dial is way smaller than I thought it would be - don't look at close up pictures because they skew the perspective. For reference, I daily a Explorer I 39m, and when I put the 15450 on it genuinely felt like a ladies watch. The other factor is the thickness is the same as the 15400/15500, so the proportions also look off.

Completely agree- a 37mm watch will never be “the next big thing” in today’s market .... and you point out my main issues w the 15450, which I really wanted to love, which is that it wears awkwardly... while the case/lugs/bracelet fit my 6.75 inch wrist like a glove as far as north-south and east-west measurements, but when I look at the dial, it is just SMALL,
And when I look at the side profile it just looks awkwardly thick/tall even though it’s not on paper.

P.s. welcome back, Tyler !

Hmm, I have a 7 inch wrist and the more an more I read about the 15450, the more and more I think the 15400 is the better choice. I was always worried that 15400 was too big at 41 but I'm starting to thin otherwise. I just wish I could get a chance to compare both at the same time. Oh well.

just try them both on. What i am saying is the 15400 wears thinner because its 41mm and 9.8(?) mm thick... the 15450 loses 4mm in diameter and zero in thickness. It wears like an offshore in a small package for lack of a better description. Think AP diver.... except its 42mm but its very brick like on the wrist. I really like that look ...on a diver.

If you like the chunkier look and many do, go for it. Just comes down to personal preference.

Yes, that is a problem. Also a problem, seven inch wrist might be the in between size as well. I found my seven inch wrist couldn't accommodate the 15400, not even as a little oversize like my 11 Deepsea at 44 and much thicker.

How about the 38 Chrono coming out?
