5960 1a no love?

With prices of some of the other stainless watches this watch seems priced at a steal at around the $40k mark. Never seen one in person and heard the bracelet very blingy but surely with prices of other sports watches prices on this one should increase ok both black and white dials?

Or maybe not as it’s not instantly recognizable as a Patek sports watch which people associate with nautilus/aquanaut look and the demand wasn’t there and wont be there.

Any thoughts on this watch and it’s future?

Sorry but the white dial version is one of the ugliest watches Patek has ever made IMO, and the black dial ain’t too far behind either.

A blue/grey 5960p however..... would be a completely different story.

It’s a great watch but can’t rival the nautilus in terms of practicality. That being said in terms of the current price it’s a great value in comparison.

One of my favorite and most versatile watches...looks great with a t shirt as well as a suit. Time will tell how it does long term, but who cares, I wear mine often and love it.

I like it, I think at the secondary market price a relatively good deal. I don't mind the looks of the bracelet, but then again I don't really like the bracelet on my 5711. I did remember there were several instances of the PR indicator being defective, is that something that's been resolved or was only a rare issue?

This watch looks great on a nice strap . Great value for all the complications in this watch . Don’t forget there was a time when there was not much love for the Paul Newman Daytona . I’m not saying the 5960 1a can compare to a Paul Newman . It’s just that the watches that are less popular end up being highly collectable because of its rarity .

Totally agree with this. This one is a sleeper but one has to be patient. BTW the bracelet is a work of art. The machining complexity and the polish on it is unreal. Feels and moves like silk in the wrist.

5960/1A was the most complicated Patek steel watch which was in regular production (excluding the limited production and application steel grand complication pieces) Couple of years ago one of the special order 5960/1A 011 (rarest of all) was sold significantly below MSRP.

If if helps - at one point, I was thinking about selling mine. While I LOVED it, and I feel it is one of the sportiest watches Patek has ever made with useful and interesting complications (and the value), I was thinking it was time to part ways. I also noted that, that as many people liked it, despised it (at the time), so I didn't know if there was a good reason to hold onto for the long-term.

That said - THRILLED I've held onto it. And I have been watching the value, when I was thinking about selling (~year ago) vs today, the value has increased since Patek stopped selling it. On Chrono24 the inventory has decreased as well - there only 9 available in the US now with the least expensive (without box/papers) is at $43k.

Not sure you are going to find a clean complete set for 40k anymore. There was a time they were going for mid-low 30s.

Too shiny.

If only the bracelet and parts of the case were brushed.

Great watch, I own it. When it first came out, I didn't like it. It grew on me when I first saw in person. Now I can't take it off my wrist. I personally think it'll grow in value in the coming years. It has so much going for it!

It was the 5146 of the past
Sat on dealers shelves so long they probably needed a service when they were sold.

Exactly...

Heresy, but IMHO that Patek bracelet looks like a poor cousin of the IWC pyramid bracelet from the early 2000s, see IWC Mark XV and pilot chronos...

I’m on the loves side. It’s a great watch. The reference to the 5146 is rather apropos. They both use the same bracelet. It is a high complication watch on the bracelet, it is not a sports watch. It is only water resistant to 30 m and were you just get to adventurous, the repair would be very expensive.

There of been many comments by collectors on the bracelet. Because this is not a sports watch, it has a polish bracelet. I personally think that it’s really easy to take care of because the simple Cape Cod cloth will fix it right up. It is a small, very loose bracelet with a simple folding clasp which uses pins and sleeves and not screws.

It is an absolutely great daily wear if you like it. Which I did. I sold it because I was trying to free up some cash and got a VC overseas instead. This is a true sports watch from one of the holy Trinity more comparable to the Royal Oak and the Nautilis.

I'm loving my 5960/01g, and agree in time the 5960/1a should do well and yea its not instantly recognizable as a Patek, or Rolex. The only person who noticed it this past month was a salesperson at Cartier. But IMO that's a good thing I bought this watch because I liked it, and use it as my daily.

The bracelet is very comfortable and doesn’t show scratches,it isn’t as blingy in real life as it is in forum comments.

5960a black dial was produced for just 1 year. There are seriously very few pieces of this out there and over time this will go up in value significantly. Nautilus is hot now but was not so well-liked when it first came out. Now prices have risen so far focus will start to turn to other models and the penny will drop eventually that 5960a has potential to become a cult classic.
When John Mayer (or similar) name check this watch in “talking watches” demand for this will really start to pick up and folks will look at the 5960a in a very different way to how they do now.
