Blancpain hot model..

A Friend ask me do I collect Blancpain.. I don’t.

However, what rivals my curiosity is when he told me his Friend sold his watch at over 100% premium over list price!

He is not sure which model it is.. I am too don’t know which model he is referring to.. am I missing out on something?

I thought I am pretty up to date.. obviously I am not..

Really appreciate if anyone can kindly bring me up to speed on what’s going on here.. sounds like a Nautilus bubble.

Thank you.

At least in the United States no blancpains are selling for 100% premium. The 40mm limited FF have been seeing 50% premium asking prices but I would guess they sell closer to 20% over.

Is this a vintage watch perhaps?

Or he misspoke, and meant sold for more than 100% of MSRP value (not 100% premium over msrp). Subtle distinction, but it makes a huge difference.

It is not vintage. He told me his Friend bought it 3 years ago at around usd8k and sold early this year for usd16k .. he told me now is close to 20k! So frustrating that he don’t know the exact model.

My curiosity is killing me.

Could it be the FF Chronograph?

closest thing to that would be the mil spec released in 2017. I could have bought one for 10k and they seem to get listed around 15k-16k.

Only thing I can imagine is a LE fifty fathoms. For a bit they were pretty soft. I remember debating the regular FF for 6k used when I decided on my Kermit.

But OP said his friends said 100% premium over list. Milspec list was ~$14.5k.
This is truly puzzling.

I just bought a Ceramic Bathyscaphe at a discount and was offered any of the current models at similar terms. I am not saying discounts are the norm, just my experience, but makes me skeptical that anything other than an LE or vintage piece is reselling at MSRP or better.

The Blancpain fifty fathoms 50th anniversary from 2003? Modern FF and a 150 pieces LE.
I do not know the MSRP in 2003, but could be close to $ 8k.
See these listed for around $ 15k.

This is likely what it is.. the closest for a high premium for a non vintage fifty fathoms

That’d be my guess as well. I’ve been looking at them for over a year and they command a crazy premium over the standard model.

Putin wearing the BP steel Leman grande date aqua lung is helping to fetch a premium, but not the $ 15k OP is talking about. Still in the dark here.

Sees strange that he knows its now close to 20K without knowing the model?

The Friend is not a watch collector. He just mentioned it to me because all he care for is “investment potential”..

Guys.. I will you all posted as soon as I hear more on this.

So far I a, still no clue.

But it could be the model like Mr Putin’s Aqua Lung.

But to know the price has increased, he’d have to know the model, otherwise how would he know the price increased?

Why don’t you just ask him where he is seeing it for $20k? Something doesn’t add up here.

The person who told me he is not a collector just a opportunist looking for an quick investment. The one who told him his watch worth 20k is his Friend, a collector. He only know it is a Blancpain brand.

I too would like to know more detail. I find this quite unbelievable for me to miss out something that is so significant and I am disappointed of myself as a seasoned collector. Shame on me for missing out on something so collectible.

You guys got the right! It is the Aqua Lung!!

Really an underdog I honestly didn’t even gave it a second glance before this.

Now I should really check them out and see what makes it so special!

Can any AquaLung owners kindly share some photos please.. and share some of your owner experience too if you can!.. .. thank you.

Sorry to hijack this thread, but the AD had a Barakuda already in stock or could put you on the list?

I called Bucherer to put my name on it and they told me that was easier to get the new BLNR then the Barracuda (which is limited to only 500 pieces)

That’s why I think they are pretty much sold out or maybe some AD’s ordered few pieces to stock them?

Thanks for the reply. Good to know that BP is shipping the Barakudas to the stores. I made a deposit at the Tourbillon Boutique in Holland for one and can not wait to pick it up.
