Stolen Rolex Submariner Z877124

I had my Rolex Submariner 16610 stolen in Ibiza July 2019. The serial number is Z877124. I've also listed it on the watchregister.com

I am sorry to hear about your watch being stolen.

You should also replort it to the RSC here in the UK and ask them to let the RSC in Spain know.

I think reporting to one RSC gets it on a central register but you want to be safe.

Keep the box and papers safe .... Watches can be recovered, sometimes many years after the loss.

If Rolex get the watch in for a repair etc they always check the serial number.

Please let us all know what happened.

I Hope your insured, if not that would be an expensive loss, with imo no chance of recovery.

In my experience Spanish Police tend to say claim on your insurance or sue the other party if known, of course it depends on the individual circumstance's but Spanish Police take watch theft as low priority.

I'm on holiday in Spain at this moment in time and I'm So careful with my own Rolex and yes its insured for theft abroad whilst on holiday.

Hi hanleycuk. Would you mind sharing what happened so that others can avoid it?

The watch was stolen off my wrist whilst walking back to Hotel Ushuaia from a nearby pizza restaurant. It was 23:30 in July so the street was noisy and very busy. It can't have been more than 300 yards and my girlfriend was walking with me. After reporting the theft to the hotel security, the CCTV along with room key activity confirmed that I left the hotel with the watch at approx.22:50.

I would never have imagined that it was possible for a skillful thief to remove a Rolex bracelet without me realising. Neither my girlfriend or I can pinpoint exactly when it was stolen on the way back from the restaurant. There were no memorable physical interactions or handshakes but there were plenty of distractions.

The moment or realisation was pretty shocking!

An expensive lesson.

Wow, mate, I'm so sorry to hear about that. I won't be taking mine then! Thank you for sharing how it went down, that's useful information for sure.

Could it have been a possible pin/clasp/bracelet failure? It'd be hard to remove a Rolex off the wrist since it have to slide completely over your hand. Just a thought and I'm sorry to hear abt the loss of your watch.

Sorry to hear this news. The sad reality is that professional career thieves travel to holiday hotspots at this time of year looking for expensive watches. If you’re going into a town with nightclubs and bars, don’t wear an expensive watch. It’s not worth the risk on holiday.

I am certain that the bracelet didn't fail. I would advise anybody travelling to Ibiza to leave their expensive watches at home.

In light of this I'll be fixing a cable tie around my clasp in future.

There is a youtube video that I wish I'd seen before my holiday.
Search 'Paul Thorpe Ibiza' on youtube. I guess this forum is the ideal place to warn fellow rolex owners of the risks out there!

Sorry for your loss. Someone here had mentioned a while back about using Covert wrist sweat bands for unsure areas when traveling.

I was definitely wearing the watch when I left the table in the restaurant.

These thieves are consummate professionals. They travel to areas like Ibiza, Barcelona, Marbella where they know rich tourists flock. They perfect their technique over years to the point the wearer would never know what hit them. Before watches, wallets and travelers checks were the target. I remember carrying my cash/checks in a pouch strapped to the inside of my pants, not in backpacks, bum bags or back pocket.
Cover the watch or leave it at home.
