on the back under the lugs there's a couple of dimples what are they for and what year did they do that

I think mine has that, need to check to be 100% certain but believe it does. Got mine new in 2006. Do they not have those dimples anymore?

You are talking about one of Panerai's quick strap replacement systems. It is on a lot of modern Luminor 1950 cases and some old Luminor cases.

You use two toothpicks (or Panerai's specific tool). Press the dimple with one, and push the pin from the side with the other. No other tools needed to change straps.
