Seems like the theme on the forum of why they are smooth is because platinum is too hard for tooling.

Someone please correct me if I’m wrong, but I disagree. I think it’s because that’s just the look Rolex chose to set it apart easily from a distance.

After all, they have to cut the grooves in the pusher screw downs on the platona, don’t they?

Opinions? Does anyone know for sure?

The Yachtmaster platinum bezel has a lot of intricate work. Platinum may be harder to work, but Rolex can do it.

I can't imagine it's a technical production limitation. More likely design decision by Rolex

Definitely a design choice. They even make crowns and pushers of platinum and the yacht master bezel like someone mentioned. Of course they could make a platinum fluted bezel.
