15202 Ebay

https://www.ebay.com/itm/143223111041?ul_noapp=true

Seem legit from the images. But seller seems off. I messaged, said they were willing to take 5500 and located in VA...

Is there a limit on eBay and Paypal's protection?

"Looking to buy an upgrade" would suggest a seller who knows what the watch is worth.

Is it worth a $5.5k punt to prove it's a scam?

For me most definitely not. Hence the warning. But curious for someone who does buy...

Zero feedback as a seller, but there is a 30 day return policy. Not sure if there is a limit on ebay and paypal protection, but $5500 is no problem.

Or they're not really looking to upgrade, but need quick cash for something else? I cannot imagine a single dealer/seller of the "upgraded" watch who wouldn't offer way more than $5,500 towards the OP's new watch...

Also, an experienced collector (or scammer) would know that you never post the full serial numbers.

Another thought: Angered wife/ex-wife? That's a men's watch, but if you look at the seller profile, and their other reviews, I'm thinking the seller is a woman...

I think Occams Razor should be applied here. In short, the answer that requires the least speculation is most likely correct.

I think the conclusion we can likely draw is that some aspect of the transaction is nefarious (seller needs money for something shady; seller is screwing someone else in their life over; seller is ripping off buyer).

Seller mentions that the reason they selling as an auction is because of their selling limit on ebay. That sounds a bit fishy, but maybe the seller doesn't know that all they have to do is call ebay to get their selling limit increased. I've had to sell a couple of items in the past that would put me over my selling limit, and ebay was HAPPY to increase my limit.
