Smooth platinum bezel question

Seems like the theme on the forum of why they are smooth is because platinum is too hard for tooling.

Someone please correct me if I’m wrong, but I disagree. I think it’s because that’s just the look Rolex chose to set it apart easily from a distance.

After all, they have to cut the grooves in the pusher screw downs on the platona, don’t they?

Opinions? Does anyone know for sure?
