Toss up between Strathearn Heather Rose and Roku at the moment.
Harris (and the beautiful bottle) in third place. |

Like I said earlier, the wife and I really enjoy gin. I was making a cocktail today and noticed how many bottles I currently have.

Do you like the Aviation? I remember trying it a few years back but wasn’t a fan. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

It was a gift. I wouldn’t make a gimlet or martini with it, but with tonic it’s good enough. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Chiming in here on Aviation....probably one of only a couple of gins I’ve tried that took some effort to actually finish the bottle. Flavor was not for me and very overpowering. I felt the same way about G’Vine which had a strong anise or licorice flavor.

Monkey 47 , my favorite. Doesn't get much better than that.

So I’ve tried Monkey 47 and The Botanist based on this thread. While both very good, I loved The Botanist.

Tried Aviation a few weeks ago.....didn't do much for me.
Beefeater and Hendricks are my go-to's. I don't mind Tangueray or Bombay Sapphire if they don't have the above two. |

Blackwoods Vintage Dry (Shetland) and Cambridge Dry (Engliand). Also Martin Miller's (England/Iceland).
My tip is to keep gin in the refrigerator, and if you must use ice with G&Ts then make the cubes from a good quality tonic such as Fever Tree or Fentimans. With tonics (and mixers generally), use those with less sugar so that they don't overpower the spirit.

There are quite a few recommendations for Fevertree Tonic. Does that include the light version? It’s less sugar, but I have not compared it side by side to the standard version.
Kirkland’s was fine mixed, but there was a particular flavor that I did not care for in it. I don’t think it’s a quality issue, but just their take on gin. It was almost like an eastern spice of some sort. My standard is Bombay Sapphire. However the Hendricks Midsummer Solstice, Fevertree (light) tonic and a cucumber slice ranks pretty high on my all time G&Ts. |

I like a gin and tonic. My preference is Hendrick’s garnished with cucumber as said above. I also think Beefeater makes a good gin and tonic and is cheap.
Maybe a bit off topic for this thread but a drink I recently discovered which is very nice is rhubarb gin, or rhubarb and ginger gin, doesn’t really matter, mixed with ginger ale. It is delicious. |

I only get the less sugar version of fevertree and think it’s the best choice. For gin I think Langton’s No. 1 Gin is the best I’ve had and it’s not expensive. I’d probably say the Botanist and Caroun are pretty good but the flavor profile on Langtons is my personal favorite.

Broker's (with the amusing 'bowler hat' atop the cap) is another recommendation. Quite strong in flavor, and extra-dry, it's well-suited for cocktails.

I’m not the biggest Gin guy. Had way too much at the local Oktoberfest 3 years ago and got away with pretty much throwing up for 12 hours straight the next day. Ever since it just doesn’t take as good
With that said, a colleague in Germany asked me to buy and bring a bottle of Ki Noh Bi. Makes me scratch my had, but obviously some Gins seem to warrant such prices... https://www.astorwines.com/SearchRes...htype=Contains

Anyone else like Bulldog??
So I only drink gin. Generally every night I make myself two Negronis once the kid is asleep, and sip on those. I started out with Sapphire, then tried Aviation which was much more mellow. To that extent I tried Bulldog, which I feel is quite similar. I did Botanist and Gin Mare, and a few others, but find myself back at Bulldog for some reason. It goes very well in a Negroni. There is also a small batch Hungarian distillery called Opera that I like, but I could be biased because I’m Hungarian. Once in a blue moon I will switch to a Hendrick’s if it’s on offer, but Bulldog is my everyday go to. Definitely took me a little while to appreciate the subtlety and nuance of it. Cheers!

My taste in gin is old school and unpretentious. I also find Fever Tree too sweet, and its 300% more than regular tonic where I am, so I usually keep Waitrose Sugar Free, which we can get here, though at a big markup on the UK price.
Cheers

During my university years in the late 80's to early ninety's, Gilbeys was the popular amongst my batch.
Nowadays, Bombay Sapphire + lime and a cube of ice before going to bed.

So I’ve now tried the above two along with Roku and Gunpowder. Gunpowder had the biggest flavor profile, but felt it needed some tonic to tone it down. Roku a close second to The Botanist. Although Monkey 47 was good, for the price I’d go with any of the above instead. As always can never go wrong with Bombay sapphire. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
