Ball Engineer DEVGRU Arrived
Last fall, I pre-ordered a Ball Engineer Hydrocarbon DEVGRU watch from Switzerland. They advertised it as a limited edition of 1,000 units, and supposedly designed it with input from Seal Team Six, the United States Naval Special Warfare Development Group (DEVGRU.) It shipped a couple of weeks ago and arrived yesterday. I really like what I see and feel. The watch is a beast. Heavy in the hand, but very comfortable on the wrist. The DEVGRU has a water resistant 42-mm stainless steel case good to to 100 meters of sea water, and it is magnetism-resistant to 4,800 A/m. The movement is the automatic BALL RR1102-SL based on the ETA 2836-2 with automatic winding, a 28,800-vph frequency and a 38-hour power reserve.
The watch has 14 tritium gas micro tubes on the hands and hour markers which glow for 25 years. A SpringSEAL locks the regulator assembly to prevent it from shifting upon impact. It can withstand a 10 meter free fall or 50,000 Gs. The SpringLOCK system is a cage around the hairspring designed to prevent twisting in a sudden shock. A red elastomer ring suspends and shields the entire dial and movement from G-forces and shock. The crown has a protective screw-down cap and guard. The bracelet adjusts very well by removing links of different sizes and/or adjusting pins on the butterfly deployant clasp. The lugs are huge and bulky, but it's extremely comfortable on the wrist. I'm confident it can withstand skiing, falling while skiing, mountain biking, falling while mountain biking or any other activity I can accomplish. I'm very happy with it. |
