Why did they use plexiglas instead of Sapphire crystal on the 372?
Just wondering why Panerai used plexiglas instead of Sapphire crystal on the 372? Is there any advantage over what seems to be the norm in sapphire crystal?

Probably for the historical value. And Plexi is very sexy. Have had no problems with scratches whatsoever.

Same reason Omega still uses Hesalite for the professional moon watches.

this is gonna sound stupid but i'm gonna say anyways..
i'm betting they're gonna make it limited. from the SIHH 2012 releases for limited editions, all uses plexi glas(except one model, forgot which one). while the normal production editions all uses sapphire crystal.. :D |
