15202 vs 15450

Hello AP lovers,

I am a fan of the 15202ST despite not having tried one on the wrist, however I am wondering if the more modern alternative 15450 is a better option to purchase. The case proportions of the 15450 are very close to the classic 39mm 15202 but with the added benefits of the 3120 in-house movement, added power reserve and lower price point.

I would like to own an AP Royal Oak at some point so would love to hear your thoughts. I have tried on the 15400ST but the size is too big for me so my options are 15202 or 15450.

Just saw and tried on the 15450 a few hours ago and it wears smaller than 37mm to me so I would suggest the 15202

Hi, I own a 15450ST and love it! My wrist size is 6.75 (picture against 41mm Tudor) and find it perfect for business wear.

The power reserve is a massive plus, especially having a few watches in the collection.

I sold my BLNR to buy this one new from a UK AD (got a bit of a deal) and haven’t looked back.

I strongly disagree. I have one and would say it wears like other brands size 38/39 mm offerings.

Yep see what you mean. Do you think the 15450 fits like a traditional 40mm Rolex?

If your wrist is ~6.5 or less the 15450 is a good option. I would definitely try it on first. If you have any desire whatsoever to get the jumbo just do it. You’ll end up flipping towards it and paying more.

i disagree with that. Its a fine watch, but its proportions (thickness) is the same as the 15400 and it is 4mm smaller across the case. Its smaller and thicker than the 15202, very clearly so.

I tend to think the ideal proportion is the 15202 and then the 15400. The 15400 appears less thick since the case is larger vs the 15450.

I find the 450 actually wears quite small, unlike most APs, as the dial is small and the case is thick and llike the 41mm, but shrunk down, as Tyler said.

I think it comes down to your own wrist and the dimensions of it. I strongly suggest you try it on like you did for the 15400.

Whether it's 6.5-6.75-7.0", etc. everyone's wrist is different. Having a flatter 6.5" wrist and more "top-level" surface area might actually equal to someone who has a rounder 6.75" wrist. Fit is more suited for the lug to lug comparison and how it sits on the surface of the wrist.

I have 6.5" wrist for example and I can fit a 15400. Haha, depends how your wrist "ovals" I guess...

But based on your comparisons I don't think you'll see too much of a difference between 15450 and 15202. The 15450 is thicker, therefore visually (in comparison with a RO case) it will appear similar size to the 15202 when you have the watch on the same angle on the wrist.

I think the 15450 should check all your boxes, and is a good value proposition, compared to the 15202.

That is has a quick set date, in-house movement, seconds hand, and screw down crown doesn't hurt either.

A little smaller, not exactly a 40mm but close to a 39mm Rolex.

I’m more of a fan of a small watch, rather than one that is to big. The 15400ST was far to big, more a 43/44mm, for me to pull off and I found the glass back was too small for the watch. My budget didn’t allow a 15202 and I want a long power reserve.

Had the Jumbo, unfortunately wore too large, the 15450 is perfect for my wrist though . . .

Even the 15202 is borderline and prefer the fit of the 41mm 15400

If you wore the 450 and 400 about an inch further up your arm, they be sitting where they should, and it'd be absolutely clear that the former is definitely too small for your wrist shape & size, whereas the latter would be spot on.

Appreciate the advice but sitting where they should is a personal thing and for me I have to wear my watches below my wrist bone.

Combination of a protruding wrist bone and above just looks odd on me! Kind of a plus as making any watch look smaller on me wouldn’t help the collection.

Was in my AD a month ago and tried on both the 400 and 450. The latter was too large and for someone who prefers smaller watches anyway, I felt the 37mm was a good for for my wrist. I haven't tried the 202 but I think that could work.

Given there's no boutique where I live (to compare v. 202), I've asked the AD to order the 450 with blue dial.

Fair enough, but one way around the wrist bone issue is to wear the watch a bit loose – it just looks a bit uncomfortable with the crown sitting on the back of your hand, especially if it was flexed back.

If the price is not a factor, 15202 for sure. Much more collectible, fantastic size in the original Genta 39mm and the movement.... yum. Wouldn't be a second thought for me if between those two, but I went for the 15300 in blue since I really wanted the quick set date. Keep that in mind.

If you like the 15202 you better buy it soon as looks like the Nautilus is having a 20% price rise and very likely the 202 will follow suit and maybe the others too.
