Sounds like your typical watch salesperson who doesn't know shit.

The santos was literally the first wristwatch. That has to mean something

Ask your AD what percentage of Patek is sold to women.

No he’s one of the Sr dudes in Patek for the chain...also he helps out on all the other brands. He literally told me not to buy it. Turned down the sale.

TO be fair he’s sold me a daytona C, a 12R and a 12a

Exactly. And you can tell him it’s for your daughter and she might let you wear it once in awhile.

Lol. I do like the watch a lot. I might end up buying it
I only wear her RM cause they won’t let me buy any of the ones I want :)

I like the watch, tried it on a couple weeks ago at an AD in Denver. For the money it beats anything else I’m aware of. I think Cartier is nice and I’m comfortable with my manhood!

Both the 5711 and Santos have scratch magnets for bezels... at least we’re controlling for that

I don't view Cartier as a top-tier horological brand. But that's not the point. Cartier is about first and foremost about design and aesthetics, not movements or horology. And on that score, the new Santos is a solid choice.

I bought the Tank Francaise in large size when it came out 20 years ago. That was one of my all-time favorite watches - good looking, comfortable, versatile. But by today's standards, it's way too small for men. Haven't worn it in years.

The new Santos is a great looking watch, a truly excellent re-design of an iconic design, and at the price it's a reasonable value. It's a major standout and exception in the current Cartier lineup.

The new Santos is not a competitor to the Patek 5711 in any way - even at list price it's nearly a 5x price difference, and at market price it's more like 10x. They're not in the same league, not even close.

And that's OK.

You don't buy the Santos because it's a fine timepiece. You buy it because it's a decent timepiece (i.e. not a shitter by any means) that more importantly has an extremely well executed design and lots of aesthetic appeal.

I'll likely get the new Santos with Blue Dial one day soon. I'll buy it not as a collector piece, but as a "wear the hell out of it and enjoy it" piece. It will fit just fine alongside my two Pateks.

It’s a good looking watch, nicely finished, accurate, comes with a bracelet and a strap that’s easy to switch out, it’s $6850, pedigreed, and you can walk-in to a boutique or an AD try it on and walk out with it the same day. I like Patek as much as everyone on here does but a little variety doesn’t hurt at all. I’m starting to sound like a Cartier salesman lol.

Cartier at this point is a fashion icon but not high horology. Shame they do not offer their classic tank in a classic size with a mechanical movement. Its what is known as a "soft" brand in today's market.

on another note, Cartier service is nonexistent here in nyc.
Is your office located at 31m below the ocean? Why couldn’t a watch with a 30m WR be suitable for daily wear?

JFK and Andy Warhol would disagree with your AD.

It’s not literal. 30m is generally not suitable for submersion in water. No idea who devised the scale for WR but it’s horse shit.

Whaaaaat?? How can it be certified to 30m but not able to go in a kitchen sink?

If it’s not a literal scale, companies are opening themselves up to lots of warranty claims.

For what it’s worth several sources indicate the watch is rated to 100 meters.

A quick search will find the Santos is water resistant to 10 bar (about 100m):

Here it is with the blue strap. Easy to take off the bracelet and mount the strap on the watch but unless you’re some kind of mechanical genius and can visualize how the strap mounts to the deployment I recommend having the boutique do it. Took me two hours and three YouTube videos to get it done. I called the boutique and they said even the service department couldn’t figure it out.
