2008 - Year of the Rolex
Hi,
I've been lurking for a wee while now on TRF and thought it would be good to come out of the shadows. What a great place this forum is and what a pleasure it is to see the quality of posts from knowledgeable and friendly members, willing to share their experiences and advice with all. I'm a firm believer in researching any future purchase and I could not have come to a better place. I'm the IT Manager for an Ad Agency in Edinburgh, Scotland and have always loved wrist watches, particularly diver's and particularly Rolexes. I had a Rolex DateJust way back in the late 80s but reluctantly had to sell it to meet some legal fees. I've wanted another ever since then. I currently own a 10 year old TAG 1500 Sports which was the nearest thing I could find and then afford approximating to a 16610 Submariner. It's a great watch, although it's just too small on my wrist at 38mm and it's not a Rolex. As it's fast approaching new year, I have made only one resolution for 2008 - to have a brand new 16610 Sub on my wrist by my birthday in September. The saving starts now! Happy new year! Regards, dkpw |

Welcome dkpw (traditional Scottish name)
Good choice on the 16610. Just hope that Rolex don't release a ceramic version at Basel 08, otherwise the last 16610 with the flange/rehaut engraving will be highly sought after, being a limited run "transitional model".

Thanks all!
The K is for Kenneth, which is about as Scottish as you can get. I hope, Welshwatchman, that there are some "plain" examples still available when funds have been accrued. |

There will be plenty of 11610 available, even if they are discontinued next year (unlikely I reckon). They prices may be a little stronger but nothing to worry about. Paul

Thanks again for all the replies!
I'm actually David rather than Kenneth (I have too many first names) but I'll answer to anything so long as it's not rude. Good to hear that there should be plenty of "plain" Subs left by the time I have saved up. There was a small blip downwards when I had to replace a PC that died on me, but I'm ahead of schedule and so should be a full member by June, some two months ahead of target. |

Welcome! It's going to be a long few months but definitely worth the wait.

Newbie from Socal
Hi everyone, new owner here after lurking a while at different AD and looking at Rolexes finally pulled the plug the before the price increase 03/01/08. The wife and I got matching SS/WG DJ with fluted bezel and jubilee bracelet. Hers got the white MOP dials with roman numbers and mine has the Rhodium dial with diamond. As soon as we got out of the AD the only time we had not worn the watch is when were sleeping. Looking forward to wearing it for a very long time.
