Seiko 23

This was my Dad's, likely from the early 60s(?). In addition to being in extremely nice condition, it has the most unusual crystal that I've ever seen on a watch. It's hard to capture in a picture, but it has "grid lines", with a square centered over the dial. Lots of internet searching revealed nothing else like it. I hold no particular attachment to the watch, and it looks like something a vintage Seiko collector may like to have.
Any thoughts or input would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance, Sparks

Looks like a Electra but I have never seen this model before. It might be a redial. https://www.google.com/search?q=seik...4LDjs8TTnbtbaM

I've never seen a Seiko that said "Swiss Parts" on the dial.

They didn't just make fakes of Rolex and Omega watches back in the 70's.

I have ran across a few Seiko's as well, and this is one (fake).
Open up the back, I think you will find a pretty cheap movement inside.
Probably 1 jewel. Assembled in Hong Kong?

I have seen them for sale before but I am not sure what they are.

As I understand, it's a pin-lever fake.

During the 60's and 70's, these were popular low-priced watches branded with names of famous companies and including phrases like "swiss made," "swiss parts," etc.

The watch is not really valuable (only about 10-50 dollars) but looks like it's in great condition.

The pin-lever movement at the time was cheap to produce, yet it ran well when it was properly maintained. However, because of cost, nobody really maintained them.

Here is a photo I found, of what is inside that "Seiko".
As you can see, a very cheap movement.
My experience has been any one who knows what it is, will not pay more than $5 for it.

Looks better than some of today's cheap movements. And the retaining ring is metal!
