We have a new pack member. I’ve been shooting photos for a local rescue group and couldn’t resist this little guy.

Thanks, y'all. He's settled right in. Great doggo friends in the neighborhood too. The rescue folks said it would take about 3 months to get acclimated.

He's taken over the joint in a couple weeks. :D

Every evening after she gets fed Callie gets her ball and practically demands we put a treat in it for her.

Is that your own dog that did that?

Yeah... it's one of two brothers I have.

I love the little fella, but this was bad because the mauling was on a 82 year old... my uncle who came to visit for Christmas.

Damn. Terrible news. Hopefully your uncle recovers 100%. As for the dog, if he stays at least you’re now aware he needs to be kept away from guests.

Was the dog trying to protect you, immediate family or his brother? Are they rescues?

that's hard to say for sure as it happened while the two were alone in my uncles guest room. My pooches name is UZI, and he's been fairly protective against males before, but nothing like this.

my initial reaction was have him euthanized as I just can not have an aggressive dog in my life... I have NEVER had one before. after a few days, I am going to just be OVERLY cautious going forward and never trust him with anyone ever again.

Uzi's brother, Owen, is extremely passive and spends a lot of his time trying to control Uzi as I think he knows they are on thin ice when I get upset.

Man I’m sorry to see that and hope your uncle heals without problems.

If it were me in your situation I think I’d have to put the dog down unfortunately. Too much risk.

I get it. My initial reaction would have been the same, but knowing the dog and it’s nuances (and loving them) would do the same to me after a few days. Where it would be an absolute decision for me is if it happened to immediate family that live with the dog.
