5711 vs GO 70's date

Of course, 5711 needs no introduction, but if you had to choose between the nautilus and GO 70's date, which one will it be?

I'm just looking for an honest opinion guys. Both of these have exceptional finishing with great movements. If both were presented to you for the first time without and sort of brand labeling, which would be your pick?

So, what are the TRF's thoughts on This VS That?

I've already made that choice and the GO wasn't even considered.

I like the GO better in pictures than real life. I like the 5711 in pictures and real life. Given the choice I'd take the 5711 all day every day.

A bit odd comparison... I would take the 5711 as it looks more dated.
GO is pretty much on par quality wise, 5711 just wins the beveling duel.

Looking at GO's movements I think the level of finishing is more akin to someone like JLC than PP. But at the price, the GOs are really nice watches with a lot of shared DNA with Lange.

The GO is very heavy and feels like a PM. It's almost opposite to the very light 5711.

I will go for 5711 on aesthetics alone.

Of course it’s not a contest — it’s simply a case of trying to decide between two equally appealing products.

In reply to the OP’s theoretical question:
GO’s micro-adjustable clasp
GO’s patented big date design
GO’s ability to switch between leather, rubber, and bracelet
GO’s ability to be acquired whenever you want
GO’s significant cost difference
Patek’s case & bracelet thinness, and relative lightness
Patek’s more artistic looking & finished movement

If these are indeed “equally” appealing then it’s quite easy. Buy the cheaper one.

The GO70s is inspired by the GUB Spezichron from the 70s.

I think these are fair points. Ultimately the Nautilus has reached a status that the GO will probably never achieve and any consideration can’t transcend the logo on the dial.

I totally agree. I really liked the GO watches I’ve owned and thought the 70’s was for me until I saw it in person. It’s a really chunky, heavy watch, and the shape just exaggerates this. Beautifully made and a gorgeous dial but the size and styling lack finesse. In a sense perhaps that goes hand in hand with the styles of the 70’s, when there wasn’t much subtlety!

In line with the additional info revealed in your WUS thread asking the same question... since the 5711 hasn’t struck the right chord on each of the times you’ve worn your father’s, then it’d be fair assessment that you’re not ready for it yet.
Maybe the GO isn’t the one either, so after trying it, check out the 15400 Audemars Piguet Royal Oak, and a pre-owned 47040 Vacheron Constantin Overseas, for good measure.
You could then go the wholehog and look at the Girard-Perregaux Laureato, the Piaget Polo, and the Bvlgari Octo and Finissimo.
Somewhere along the line, one or more of those should hopefully grab you, becoming the object(s) of your desire.

@wisguy in what matter other than brand and bevelling is 5711 superior?
Design depends on personal taste.

I didn't say which I liked better.

Agree that it's a matter of personal taste, you may like one more than the other, but would rarely compare the two.

To me it's like comparing a Chevy Camaro to a Ferrari 458 Italia, both fast, both serve the same purpose, you could argue that is more functional, but people are willing to pay 10x more for one than the other, why do you think that is?

i don't think i'd pay the current prices for this GO, but i've always liked the blue dial version. it's genta-esque design and the spectacular blue sunburst dial makes it very appealing. i would strongly consider adding it as a beater...but for considerably less $.
