Is hard to see the time in a Daytona?

i m asking beacuse I think is not an “easy read” watch.

Maybe I m wrong, but lot of circles can be a problem

Opinions?

It’s hard to read the time on a day date early morning or late at night. If you’re buying a watch to easily read the time then you’re buying it for the wrong reason.

The see the time clearly is important for me, and I m curious about Daytona owners experience in that department.

Fair enough. A sub or gmt is best by far for legibility. Some struggle with a Daytona/YM2 others don’t. Only way to find is to try it.

I don't have any issues reading the time on the black daytona. I haven't tried to use the chrono functionality much, but those are a bit tougher to read.

Black dialed Daytona is harder to read than a white dial.
If you want maximum legality get an Explorer.
The hardest thing to read on a Daytona are the sub dials

I think this is one of the main reasons for buying a watch. What would another reason be for buying one? It would be utterly useless if you cannot read the time easily or if you have to decipher how to get the time instead of a quick glance.

Back to OP's question, imo yes, it's a bit harder than most Rolex watches unfortunately

Which is easier? Which would rather have and why?

I’m sorry but...spending $13k+ on a watch, I don’t think it’s too much to ask that the time be legible. I’m also curious for what other reason would you be buying a watch? What watch brand you buy is relative to your income. However the more expensive the watch the less legible the time is doesn’t make sense to me.

I used my Daytona for years to follow along while we were editing B roll for commercial production. I was the ad agency and not the editor where they had digital encoding to rely on. My Daytona was very accurate and easy to use...

Not as good as this legibility, but that's beyond the point.

The Explorer is probably the most legible of the Rolex lineup.

It’s not easy to read. Especially the black dial with white gold hands and silver outlined sub dials. Other dial/hand combinations are easier to read.

That’s one reason why I opted for the two tone. The yellow gold hands off much more contrast.

It’s not that easy to read, unfortunately. Part of the issue is the color of the hands on the white dial version. The lume.

The main reason I sold my Daytonas. Visibility is a bit poor, the dial is too crowded. No matter how popular, the design is flawed. Put a Daytona alongside a Speedmaster and the difference in clarity is stark.
A redesign with greater dial clarity is surely overdue, great sales or not.

In the dark twilight hours only. During the night and day then no issue.

The iphone, because I'm not a fan of roman numerals or PM models. Sorry :(

One of the reasons, I sold my Daytona earlier this year.

I needed my reading glasses.

I don't have any issues reading the time on my TT black dial Daytona. The sub dials are obviously smaller but I still have no issue reading them either. Personally I find the gold on black makes it easier, I don't like white dials, Roman numerals or numbers out of personal preference but admit they look good on others and I find champagne dials with gold hands require a little more study rather than a quick glance. I suppose like most things it can take some getting used to if you're not accustomed to a kind of style. For me I didn't have any issues from the day I put it on my wrist.

It is a little busy but never an issue to tell time at a glance. Most of the time people say that to justify not having one;)

Depends on the colour scheme and incident light.

I think the Daytona can be harder to read in some situations than other Rolex models. But it only takes a repositioning of the wrist to make it more legible in situations where it is not. And this isn't unique to the Daytona - far from it.

Where the Daytona falls down for me is the sub dials. I can't easily read them. They are too small for my eyesight in many situations. This makes the main complication of the watch useless for me. A date function would be nice too. I have a 43mm chrono which doesn't wear like a dinner plate and is easy to read.

Given the state of the market, it's a relief to declare that the Daytona doesn't interest me. Although it's one beautiful, classic, iconic design, which I can never walk or read past with stopping and admiring. The ads and articles I see mostly depict the watch magnified larger than life size.
