There is a 5270p on chrono24 listed at $157k right now. If that helps at all.

440 ADs

Assume each receives 2 (2018 & 2019) = 880

Plus 1 more for 2020 assuming it’s discontinued next year (last delivery)

Still 1,300 pieces more or less

Price tag is 150-152k new in grey market so far if you sort it out and this is still in production. Can’t imagine if Patek keeps it going next year, what will happen to the price. It is a grail piece for sure. Sad to see the majority adores nautilus over such beauty.

5971p just sold for 212k at Antiquorum auction in Geneva last week. Deduct another 10% premium for the seller according to them. The guy only gets like 190k. Price is diving sadly.

I just bought mine ~10 days ago and i certainly couldn’t find one for 157k. Are we sure that’s a real price?

Thanks everyone, I think I'm just going to pass for now. I'm not ready to spend this amount when it's only been on my radar for a day or less, and it seems like I should be able to get another (even if not from an AD, but probably at a discount) if I change my mind. I'm usually not too concerned with value retention, but this one scares me given it looks like I could easily lose $50k+ if things go wrong. The 5970 also appears to be much more in favor than this and even those are only increasing at under 3%/year.

I still feel bad passing on it because I do love the watch and it would be a great account-builder, but this one just doesn't seem to make sense to buy at list unless you're 100% committed to never selling it. I've bought probably 25 watches over the past few years, all of which I fully intended on keeping forever when I got them, and I can only confidently say that there are 2 I'd never get rid of, so to say I don't satisfy that requirement is an understatement.

Lot of people seem to buy tax free these days which is still considerably less and with your name on the papers.

5270p is my grail! Get it OP!

It’s a win win situation for you anyways cuz both of your choices absolute killer pieces.

If you are worried about value retention just wait it out for the 5740.

My opinion only, every collection should have at least 1 Platinum watch. I try to ignore collectability and just concentrate on what I really like.

Found it for $155k

Just found this watch at a retailer in new condition for $155k, is that a good price? I love the watch but at this price range I always want to make sure I am not losing a lot of value. I don’t mind it going down 10% from here but anymore would really take away from my enjoyment. I have never sold a watch before but I always am comforted with the peace of mind that if I ever needed to sell, that they have retained most of their value.

Have had one on the wrist at a Patek event, and wow! It is absolutely staggeringly beautiful. I’ve said before, I’d be tempted to trade my whole collection for it one. Seriously, pull the trigger. Sure, if you flip in a couple of years time, you’ll lose some coin. But you’ll likely have lost more in car depreciation in that time and not given it a second thought.

It wasn’t my intention to fall out with any forum members, my frustration expressed in my original post was born out of the continued speculative aspect of what seems most purchased lately. Nothing more nothing less.

Very fair.

Man, I hate it when I respond to a thread without first checking the OP date. Third time in a month. Why do I not learn. I’m too stupid to be on the PP forum.

So did I! Just curious is it the light in the picture or did you change the strap to a grey one?

I changed the strap to a custom Patek blue/grey strap. Depending on the lighting, it can be more blue or more grey.

Here, it’s more blue:

This watch is a beauty. Sadly my wrist (or wallet) can’t pull it off
