5712/1A or 5960/1A Black
I know how popular the 5712/1A is. But the 5960/1A black is one of the rarest Patek sport watches, being only produced for a few months in 2017.
They have comparable market value now at USD 65-70k. Which one do you prefer and why? Patek-Philippe-5960-steel-black-dial-Top-10-Baselworld-2017.jpg patek-philippe-nautilus-5712-1A-001-cinque-KrobfK1.e7e24da68237.jpg |

5960 is more complicated and the better watch, but too shiny for my taste being all polished.
For that reason 5712. If only the 5960 was brushed!

There’s something about the bracelet of the 5960 that makes me think of Breitling.

If the 5960 black dial is released by Rolex on an oyster bracelet under the professional series, it will have a waiting list as long as the Great Wall.

5712/1a.
Annual calendars don’t do it for me. And, when a “This or That” involves a 5712/1a, it usually isn’t a fair fight, anyway.

I find the 5960 an odd looking watch.
But a PP in SS produced for only a few months sounds like a future collectible for sure. I prefer the 12 though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I would take the black one because it’s an amazing watch with annual calendar which was only one year in production and you cannot get any more.
A Nautilus you can get when you are waiting. The 5960 not more |

5712 also for me. I don't like the shiny bracelet and the dartboard dial of the 5960

Just because it’s steel doesn’t make it excusable to look like...that. Nuff said

I want to say 5712 because it is a little more subtle but the days of a nautilus being subtle are over so pick your poison.
I would still pick the 5712 because I never really liked the 5960 series in general. Not big on the pump pushers or the bullseye chrono.

Put 5712/1A against ANY watch below 100K (and many beyond this threshold) and my pick will always the 5712/1A.

5712 by a mile. But, I’m biased and do not like the 5960.

As someone who has owned both (sold the 5960)... The 5712 is my choice. I bought the 5960 knowing that I didn't love it, but my AD sold me on the rarity of the black dial. In the end I never really was into it. Can't imagine ever saying that about the 5712.
Who knows, 20 years down the road the 5960 may be more valuable, but 12 is (and will always be) more interesting and attractive. |

5712 for me as well.
Mainly as I see the 5960 as a bit more dressy and it just wouldn’t get the wrist time for me in that case. Plus some water resistance for the 5712 is always good :)
