I agree for the money 5970P is clearly the way to go. 5970P is just a little more at this point than list on the 5270P and probably will hold from here.

I would absolutely wait for a 5740 instead. Or opt for a 5970, 3970 or 5004. You seem to be concerned about resale value so just look at the resale value of other 5270s and the writing is on the wall IMHO.

Agreed 100... at 6 figures plus you better have some brains in addition to balls lol

I hesitated before offering my thoughts, pieces at this level are very much personal preference.

I was lucky enough to be accepted for an allocation following Basel and was very much looking forward to the piece. My AD had a Basel collection show some months later and following wearing the piece for 30 minutes I took an informed decision and withdrew my interest. The piece is absolutely stunning but the dial colour simply didn’t suit me - this was the only reason I changed my mind.

Good luck with your decision process - it is an amazing watch.

This forum’s reaction initially soured me on the 5270p, but once I had a chance to sit with it for a while, it’s clearly a winner. If you like it, get it, if you don’t, don’t get it. The experience put a bad taste in my mouth with TRF which is why I almost didn’t want to say anything to keep threads like this going.

I’m sure I’ll lose value short term with the 5270p, but everybody needs to take a step back and realize that the 5970 series is obviously more collectible because it’s out of production. Let’s wait for the next PCC series and then you can truly judge the 5270’s long term value.

No , it’s not about the movement. When I said lemania, It was a hint so you could tie it to it’s production self limiting characteristics.
Sure there are some people that love the movement and might say this and that , but it’s romantic characteristics won’t make the trick.

I will be curious to see where the 5270P ends up on the collector's lists. New PP just does not pop like it did years ago. Maybe we are all just older.

Patek does salmon dial so well, and aesthetically, I rank the 5270 alongside the pantheon of great salmons - the 5035, 5970, 3940 and 5450.

And apologies, I'm truly not interested in the discussion of scarcity, volume, production number and value retention. I appreciate beautiful watches as they are, nothing more.

Went to see the 5270p today and it wasn’t love at first sight. Felt a bit too big and top heavy on my wrist. Of course an amazing watch, but for this money you have to love it. 5170p feels like a better option for me. Will also try out 5970p or g before deciding.

My AD has a long waiting list for the watch (about 3y, I expect it to be discontinued before) so looks like I will make somebody else very happy.

I’d rather pay for a nice 3970. For my wrist size that’d be perfect. For some reason I’m not very keen on the 5740 either, it may be blasphemy on this sub forum but I’d rather get an AP RO perpetual if I wanted a sportier version of the complication.

I had a similar experience when I tried the 5270, top heavy and, for me, a bit too big.

Sounds like solid advice to me. 3970 is a wonderful watch.

I really like the salmon dial, but why did they have to make it so big? Overall, it's a no-go for me.

Funny, I LOVE my 5370P and wish it was just a touch larger and I believe it's 41mm

I think the 5270p could be stellar...I just need to see that dial in person first and it's proving quite difficult.

Hello Guys,

So I have been looking some news re-5270P and I came across this forum. Have been following for a while and now decided to engage.

I have been for long time dreaming to get the 5970P and was very close getting it until they released reference 5270P in Salmon dial.

So I paid a visit to Geneva (Patek Musuem) specifically to try the 5270P and the 5970P. Now here is my input. First both of them are stunning references, same weight and nearly same wearing feeling. The 1mm difference isn’t really noticeable. Please bear in mind that both are platinum. Having said that, we have to agree that Patek always release the platinum model before the end of the cycle of a given reference, now we have it a platinum and Salomon dial :). Add to that that the Salmon dial is actually stunning when you see it in person, i have asked the question to the guy at the museum and compared with other references and all what I can say, it’s the exact same Salmon dial like other older references. Just for you to know, they had a major issue this year manufacturing the dial and it caused delays in delivery up to today in all markets. Further, they are allocating one to each dealer worldwide and the only one available for sale is on Chrono for 213K USD. In the Middle East the watch already sells for over 200K ticket and expected to fetch more.

Having said that back to the 5970P and the 5270P. My conclusion is we really can’t compare other references, once is the best ever looking Patek with the lumina and the other is yet for me one of the best ever looking ones with the first in house patek movement. Put in consideration that the later will be discontinued very soon and many who posted their dislike here will be hunting it around the globe to get one:) so my final decision, I am awaiting with patron my new 5270P and looking to get the 5970P for a good deal😀

Can't 100% rely on Patek timing these days. Some discontinued models could still show up 3-4 years later after they announced it.

5960p black dial is one. I don't think 5270p salmon will be scarce imo.

If the 5960P is a reference, the next logical release will be a 5270A. Heads will explode.

I hope it will not be scarce as I would like to see one. What I do not care for on the 5270P is the partial Arabic's, which to me, throw the dial out of balance. Sticks would have been much better.

Told my AD today that I will not take the watch. I asked if they would sell it to a friend of mine, someone who contacted me here on the forum who wanted to take the watch, but they refused. They will offer it to the next on the list.

I decided to go for it.
The soft market value of prior 5270s can’t stop my desire to own a platinum patek PCC under my name.

Best, Henry

Henry , you made a wise decision! If later you decide to sell, you could easily make 80 grade on it ! Congratulations - enjoy your new time piece. BTW if you want to make a fast 10 over what you paid pm me any time :-)

Congrats to you! True watch lover!
Desire, Passion, PCC under your name > Secondary market value dilemma of a lot of watch buyers thats why they opt for 5970.
