BSA is back....

I bought a new a BSA 650cc Lightning back in 1968. BSA stands for Birmingham Small Arms.

I remember on these bikes you had a screw down "damper" just below the speedo and tach to stop speed wobble. It worked great at highway speeds but when you got back into town and attempted to turn a corner at a slow speed and you couldn't turn the handle bars you got a big surprise. Note to self....always remember to "un-dampen" when slowing down for a slow corner.

Some history. https://burtonbikebits.net/historybsa/

So I guess the name was purchased (much like Triumph) and they will have their first model next year....

This was one exactly like mine....

Here's the info on the new ones... https://newatlas.com/motorcycles/bsa...42a4c-93122952

I had a BSA 650 Lightning chopper as a teenager in High School.
My parents never knew about it and it was an absolute death machine to ride

I had the predecessor an A10. Unfortunately the guy I'd bought it off had rebuilt the engine but he'd forgotten to wire lock the bolts that held the big end bearings on the conrod. Blasting down the road one day, the end caps came loose, ending up with one conrod going through the bottom of the crankcase and the other through the front. I'd never grabbed a clutch lever as quick.

I remember BSA had the rear brake and the gear changing pedal on the opposite sides from my previous Honda.

When I did a panic stop at first I had to jam down hard with both feet to make sure I braked with the correct side. I soon got used to it but it was weird.

We had the same problem when the Japanese bikes arrived, everything was the wrong way round!
