Empty Cases for PP

Went to 2 separate PP ADs this weekend in two different states. Neither had a single men's watch in the case.... I expected a 5524r or 5235r, but nothing at all.

It's not just in the US.

Even here in Hong Kong, where (according to Swiss export numbers) there should be lots of watches ... our stores are quite empty.

One AD recently relocated to the (iconic) Peninsula Hotel, with a new boutique on the ground floor in the lobby. I went in and they only had 3 watches on display. There were lots of cufflinks though ....

When I was in vegas last month , literally zero watches at the PP store in the Crystals. Every case display had cuff links.

In Europe it is still a bit better. The hot watches are missing, but most ADs would have 4-8 watches in the window.

No inventory for men's watches at my AD. Plenty of women's watches though.

Although you will not see high-demand pieces, here in Chicago over the past six months there has consistently been 4-5 mens’ watches on display, including Calatravas and World Timers. Usually interesting things in the vault, too. A gorgeous 5230G has been sitting in the case for months.

That's because everything is an investment now. Even ladies watches.

It's like the latest cryptocurrency or NFT collection.

No one buys watches to wear anymore.

We still wear watches?

... totally agree with that statement.

Frankly running across social media with individuals having 20+ PS5s stacked up is insanity. Kids don't even buy a gaming system to play video games on anymore. The "hustle"... to show that they are "successful" (while living in their parents basement).

Interestingly, I visited a Rolex AD recently whilst wearing my ceramic Daytona. The sales guy was astonished that I was wearing the watch. He said to me “they’re hot and you actually wear it”.

I went into Tiffany’s in nyc and headed for the PP area. Also 0 watches and only cuff links. I found it funny so started talking to the sales rep and asking him what he thought of it all. He was pleasant, said it’s all a bit crazy. Then I asked him what he does all day, thought he’d get extremely bored, and he mostly agreed but put a positive spin on it by telling me he gets to chat with people like me all day. This whole situation is crazy, I cannot imagine sitting around all day with nothing to sell.

No men watches at all. But one sleeping sales rep and one that must be bored out of his mind. I considered going in for a chat but then I would wake the other one up. I left them in peace.
