Only if you have the money and can buy the watch without feeling it and really really love the watch. Once you fulfil the above criteria, there are other issues lol.

I might get flamed for this, but the 5711 is probably the most over-hyped and run of the mill watch you can get right now. I handled one and passed on it- not because of the price. I just wouldn't really enjoy wearing a 5711.

1: It looks pretty ordinary in person. The watch comes across as flimsy (especially the bracelet). Non WIS people wouldn't take a second look. Nice yes, amazing no. RRP nice I guess.
2: Just like Rolex SS models, they are not rare, there are literally heaps in existence. They're hard to buy at the moment, but that wasn't always the case.
3: You can get better watches for what the asking price is on the grey market.
4: The Nautilus models with complications are all better IMO and if you were going to go down this path, consider those as well.

I would but I would never tell anybody that I did. I would pretend that I bought it at retail from an AD or that I bought it years ago for a discount BELOW retail. Either one of those stories would guarantee me a lot of respect.

Yes and I would make sure everyone knows I paid 60k for it by trying to bring the conversation to my watch.

No. I have 30K I could use for a gold daytona if I could get the 5711 at MSRP. 2 watches, 1 price.

As much as people pay up for it...its not a 60-80k watch. The 30k is the value of access that is priced into the watch... the watch itself is at best a 40k watch

No. But if the 5711 were uniformly available at MSRP at ADs, how much attention would people give it?

There's so much fawning over the Nautilus now. But really, why? Is it because people truly like the watch itself, or because they like to be seen with a watch that commands a well-known cash premium, or because day-trading has taken over?

Remember, just a few years ago people weren't wetting themselves over the Nautilus (nor getting woodies over the Aquanaut). And a few years before that they were both often dismissed as "not real Pateks". Yet now they're revered as "grail" or "it". One thing's for sure: social media is definitely a thing.

Gotta wonder how deep the love really is sometimes...

No. I could have bought one a number of years ago that was pre-owned for 19k and I passed. Except for the chance to make some cash on a flip the watch does nothing for me.

So you think it's worth $40,000 which is $10K (33%) over retail?

I was lucky enough to buy a blue 5711 at retail last year but a similar thing happened to me in another hobby.
I was able to buy a rookie (NFL) football card (collectible) of my favorite player for $500 in 2000 but passed up because I thought it was overhyped and overpriced then it turn in high 3 digits and now they sit at 4 digits to 6 digits in 2019. I recently acquired one just last year. I think aside from principles, one’s value and taste change over ages, at least for me. It was well worthwhile for me and crossed off my want list.
But then I am more a sports collectible guy than a watch guy.

At most... if I didn’t have access I wouldn’t mind paying up to that price. Or bundling to that price

I think the better question is anyone on here insane enough to pay 50k for an Aquanaut. Hahaha

Zero chance. Msrp or less for me only.

Shows you how smart Thierry is to not increase production to feed the bubble based on the responses here. Like others I find the watch bland and vanilla.

I don’t see it unless it’s discontinued. I’ll be happy if it does since I have one.

Jin... i love ya but you have swung and missed on a fair amount of pieces. I hope you can be the guy to tell me I told you so on this one but will be shocked if it happens.

Well said. The hype train is crazy for the 5711. I bought mine 6 years ago when it was sitting in the display case. It is one of my favorite pieces but I wouldn’t pay more than 30K for it now.
