cash vs credit

How do you usually pay? Cash or credit?

If cash, do you ever get a discount? Do you bring a cashier's check?

Credit, never paid in actual cash or money order. Credit card is in my pocket, cash takes work. I have to go to the bank and get actual cash (which apparently banks don’t have) or get a money order.

I had a hard time getting $13,000 out recently. I had to come back because they bank didn’t have it.

Credit Card. Always. I am in it for the points/miles/cash back. Who doesn’t want a 1% to a 5% discount on everything they buy?

I have had cash in my wallet for months.

Cash. The retailers are not going to eat the CC fees, you do.

X3. Credit card is just too easy and (relatively) lucrative to use cash. I hit the ATM less than once a month now and tend to use cash mostly for tipping.

If we’re talking a watch purchase I agree.
I’m not sure if OP was asking about buying a watch or just spending in general.

Since this was posted in the open discussion forum, I assume you’re talking in general? If that’s the case, I use my credit card for almost every transaction for the air miles.

I use a credit card 99.99% of the time and have cash in the wallet in the rare case I need to use it for a transaction or tip someone.

What led me to believe it was a watch purchase was the "cashier's check" part of the question. This usually means a large purchase.. could be wrong

I pay for most things with credit unless the merchant has a surcharge for it because of the rewards.

However, I always carry cash for tips

I always prefer to use someone elses money and get paid for doing so.

I have better uses for my liquid funds.

At the AD, I use a credit card. I have even used their (6 month) interest free loan service thru Wells Fargo. I'm retired, cash flow ain't what it used to be.

I meant cash vs credit for watch purchases. Just wanted to know what I should expect when I make my purchase. Thx

Would the boutique give a 1-4% discount for cash vs credit?

New to the forum, still trying to navigate properly

I use an old cash back card that doesnt have a sunset date on the 3%. I pay off the balance when the statement comes due and then request a check for the 3% credit.

A credit card will give you leverage if something happens which cash or a debit card wont.

Also, remember to pay off your balance. Never use a credit card to purchase a watch if you dont have the cash to pay it off right away.

Use credit cards for 95% of all transactions regardless of amount. The points, the points!

I use a combination of both and really depends on the situation. Obviously any larger buys would constitute a CC use.

Cash does not build my credit score and for me that is more important than cash. Hence, credit card all the time.

Always credit card. One in particular if it is food/groceries, another if it is travel/electronics/other. I can get a free vacation out of it.

Are you looking for straight cash back or are points of interest as well?

Unlimited Cash back, 2% is pretty easy to get in multiple places. Citi Double Cash is an example. Have only seen one unlimited 3% cash back card - Fidelity Cash Rewards. Capitol One Savor will do it in certain spend categories. You can get cards with a higher cash back value but they usually have a $$ cap.

Credit card for everything. Credit cards were one of the best inventions of its time, and with the competitiveness in that industry, the extra cashback/rewards programs make it a no brainer now. You are literally taking the liability out of your hands when purchasing on credit. I buy all my watches on credit, then pay it off before the next statement.

Credit Card for many reasons…..

- My Credit Card has insurance for stolen items below $20,000 USD
- Bonus points to buy trips or turn to cash
- Extended Warranties
- Match any lower price of whatever you buy after one month period
