Christmas Self-gifting

What are you treating yourself to this holiday season?

As much as I'd love a new Rolex from my family I just know it'll never be in the cards for a holiday gift. So I like to treat my family with some really nice things and package up something for myself in the process.

This year I'm trying to find the willpower to hold off with one of my latest incomings. It's looking to be a sport model Tudor for me unless one of a couple of long shots come in within the next few weeks (PM Daytona???).

Would love to see some other ideas (watch or non-watch) to consider for my 2022 list.

About a month ago, I put a deposit down to get my name on the list for a 2022 Tundra. I was told it would be a minimum of 5-6 months. I got a call last week that mine is being built Dec 13! It should be here right in time for Christmas.....MERRY CHRISTMAS to me!!

Ski in/out condo in Mammoth. Kind of a combined 40th birthday and Christmas present. Kids are finally old enough to teach them how to ski and missed hitting the slopes.

Not sure this year of a self gift as just glad to make it through 2021 with what I have

Treated myself to a new motorbike last year so that base covered

Really want an omega Speedmaster but held off for nearly 18 months due to uncertainty especially around my job. Just turned down the offer of a 2nd permanent job to stay as a contractor so hoping the right decision for 2022

Buying my wife a pair of Lucchese boots, and a matching pair for myself. She wants new boots, she’ll love that we’ll have matching boots, and I’ll get a new pair too. Win, win, win.

Also thinking about an Omega Railmaster, but won’t be matching one for the wife. My birthday is Tuesday so it’s kind of a present to myself. But that feels a bit selfish, so still considering.

Sweet! I got season passes for my oldest and myself and I'm teaching him. Once I can get him confident enough with linking turns, then I'll add the second one into the mix and start instructing him. He picks things up pretty quickly. Rinse and repeat and once I've got those two confident then I'll work on the 3rd one! I've got 3 boys! Thankfully my 3rd is very athletic and coordinated. He does gymnastics and Taekwondo. I think he might be the easiest!

Awesome idea. What's the best age to start? I have a 2 year old that I'd like to take up I think it's just attention span I'm worried about.

All kids are different, so it all depends on your child's ability to learn a new activity, stay engaged, their basic athletic ability, how they feel in general just being in all of the gear, etc. Two years old is quite young. Personally I'd give it another season and then try next year, but only you know your child. You could always just take your child out onto the hill without skis on just to play around and see other kids. Whatever you do, #1 make it fun and #2 be prepared to have very short days. Don't be surprised to have an hour long day.

It also depends on your own ability level and your patience for instruction. I'm a former racer and got my PSIA Level 1 instructor rating after high school just to get it but I never did any teaching, so I would have to go through all of the levels all over again if I ever wanted to formally instruct other kids than my own. A lot has changed now, too. It's one thing to have the muscle memory and ability level yourself, but quite another to actuality verbalize it and teach other people correctly.

There are great and free resources online that you can download, and YouTube has a million videos on how to get your child started on the snow. Go to the PSIA website and they have some good information about starting children with the sport.

I started when I about 3 1/2, turning 4 in April of that season. The ski resort where I learned had a mountain preschool program so the parents could drop the kids off and then go ski for the morning. The kids would do indoor projects and play outside, then do some basic foundation instruction. Then the parents would pick up for lunch and we would ski as a family for the rest of the day. That's always an option - do part of the day with a pro and then you just work with your child to reinforce what they were working on.

Good luck!

Love it Canuck!

Please post a wrist shot on arrival. I'm trying to find the right occasions to wear this reference. When/where are you planning to sport this?

Not 100% sure. Won't be a daily but I'd like to wear it now and again mostly likely not at work.

Will be my first PM. Ordered it for my 50th but it's come a year and a half early.

A Tudor sports watch is a cool present to get yourself. I decided to commission two bespoke suits from a local tailor (a double-breasted in high twist worsted, and a single-breasted linen).

No watches for me. Don’t have interest in dealing with the distribution games right now.

Bought myself parts for a PC build. 5950x + RTX 3080
