The 20k USD GMT II

Hi all
Given the current state of things with those impossible waiting lists and growing frustration from buyers it still amazes me that Rolex wont increase the price of the GMT massively to curb demand. Cant offer any detailed sensitivity study on it but id say 20k USD for the new Pepsi and they'd still be able to sell them all while not making it insanely hard and annoying to procure.

What do you think? Would a pricelist of 20k put you off from buying a Pepsi?

Yes. Yes it would. Especially since I already own one.

Seriously, for 20k, I'm thinking PM.

Made a mistake, thought you were talking about the WG GMT. I would not pay 20 K for a SS watch.

You can get what you want from a grey dealer...especially if willing to pay 20K for a steel GMT

Then folks would pay $30,000.

Joking aside, the number of people willing to pay that price is limited overall. Rolex would do themselves a tremendous disservice to overprice a watch in that manner. The industry is quite competitive and getting smaller.

Hell no I wouldn't pay $20K for that watch. I would rather pay $20K for white Daytona.

I'd guess $20k is too high, since WG GMTs were selling in the low 20s. But $12k would probably work for them. I too can't believe they aren't planning a big across the board price increase, well, at least for SS.

I like the watch a lot. I put my name down on the list with my AD. That being said, I will not pay a dollar more than MSRP + tax for this one...

Crazy to think that the trending price for this thing will be that close to the current grey prices for a Daytona (which would imply a higher % premium over list MSRP) and in excess of grey prices for SS Sky Dwellers.

They're already doing themselves a disservice by severely restricting supply and forcing customers to wait 4-5 years for a watch...or pay thousands in premiums from "trusted" sellers.

They didn't make a name for themselves by making unobtainable watches that cost near $10k.

The price will be set by the first gray dealer and what he decides to list it at. My guess is less than 20k for the first one. BUT, if supply remains low it wouldn't surprise me to see them move up to close to that. It looks like the Daytona just cracked 20K.

I understand that, but grey doesn't make money for Rolex itself. Im sure they are well aware of resale prices of their watches, but the fact that they do nothing to turn the extra revenue to them is still..odd...

I think people are seriously overestimating what the early adopter premium might be for the SS Pepsi GMT. I can see greys selling for maybe $11-12K early on but I'd be really shocked to see $20K.
And no I don't think it would be wise for Rolex to ask that for them.

Ok in the 10-12k range but 20k definitely would put me off.

Not a chance and won't even be close -not even in the gray market.

For 20K I'd rather keep saving for a full PM GMT.

$20,000 for a SS Rolex is Patek, Lange, FPJ, and a few others territory. I’d choose one of those. Especially since I have two SS Rolexes, a GMT I bought for under $8K (Caribbean) and a SD43 I bought at retail.

I’d never pay $12,000 more for the SS BLRO GMT than my LN. jubilee... whoopee. New movement, OK but it isn’t $12,000 better than the movement I have now.

If you're at 20k for the SS version, you might as well buy the PM BLRO, as I'm sure those will go down to the 22-23k range.

and they'd sell less SS watches at $20k list than they did WG at $38k.

Agreed. Rolex knows their market very well and prices things accordingly. They want the mystique/prestige and they always want demand to outdo supply if possible at this point.....but they won't get to these price levels because they know they'd be competing with Patek/AP/Vacheron at that point....and that's not the space they play at.

I guarantee DavidSW who will probably have the first one for sale on the forums. Sells it somewhere between 18K-22K.

It happened with the Daytona C.

I wouldn't even consider it. I want a Daytona more and won't pay the cartoon prices for that one.

I would never pay more than double for any watch! If it's a grail piece which is hard to obtain, I might go 10% above MSRP. But $20,000 for a SS Rolex? No way! Besides, at that price point, I would rather get an AP, Patek or F.P Journe to name a few.

In all seriousness even 9k is a bit overpriced compared to likes of Tudor.

How bad were the ceramic daytona's when they first hit GM/fleabay? I think these will be 18-20k and take at least a year to get to 15k-ish

$20K for a SS Watch?!! Are we talking dollars? No way I’d pay that much for a SS piece.
However, others may be willing to pay the steep premium. I’d pass at the price point.
