I agree. I have several services that track the secondary watch market. All the brands are in a gray market price decline. While there are some aspirational models that remain well over MSRP, the bulk of the market is on a steady downwards glideslope.

According to the recent 5(!) hour Acquired podcast on Rolex, management wanted people to work overtime, 6 days instead of 5, in the 2020-2022 period to increase production.

Lots of interesting points and history in the podcast, but a common theme is that Rolex does NOT follow boom cycles, ala Cartier which destroyed millions of dollars of watches after overproduction. Other brands had to slash prices after raising them too quickly. Rolex slowly but surely grows and slowly but surely raises prices a bit and does not chase secondary market prices.

Hans Wilsdorf never chased exclusivity, but actually wanted a Rolex on every wrist.

Yes rolex are cutting production by a few percent this year. Dealers are getting slightly fewer Watches than last year.
