Thinking of getting a new PO.

Good day all,
I was thinking about possibly getting a new Omega Planet ocean in the next few months (more specifically, the 2900.50.91 with the rubber strap). The thing is, I currently have the SMP "bond" auto (2531.80), and with all the hype of the new Planet Ocean, and new movement (Co-axel), etc. I figure I would try one out. You guys think it's worth it to get the new PO, or save my money, and just keep what I have (well, I'm going to keep it anyway lol). Any thoughts and comments on the PO are very welcome :)

PO is a nice watch. What other watches besides the SMP do you have? Why do you want another Seamaster? I'm just asking...

The PO is a good looking watch.. A bit much for me, but that's why there are different models..

The great thing about watches as a hobby/activity is that you don't really have to justify one for the other.. No different than stamp collecting...

Now if you're just a guy who only wants a watch to "tell time", that's OK too, but it makes the decisions harder.

Here is what I did with Omega. I got a 6 hole cherry wood watch box...It's my Omega box and the Omega collection. I never thought I would fill it but there is only one slot left now....and they all see some wrist time. And when friends learn of my Watch addiction, it's one of the boxes that come out so they can see how crazy I really am..

The PO (42mm) is a great watch, it has a simple design yet robust. I haven't heard of any issues with the co-axial movements for the non-chronos yet.

Do note that the PO has both sides of the glass AR coated. I'm not sure if it will bother you or not. I used to have a PO, but had to flip it since I had some financial duties to uphold and I already have the 2531.80.

Here are some side by side comparisons between the PO and 16600.

The PO is a nice watch--I don't see any reason to hesitate.

Wow, thanks for the side by side comparison photos
I haven't actually went to an Omega AD yet to physically see the PO, from the looks of it, it's a BIG watch :). I was trying to decided which watch to get, a SeaDweller, or the PO. I've already owned a Sub. Date a while ago, and sold it unfourtantly but, will soon be in the market for another watch. I've had my eye on the PO for a while, and, since I still have my "bond" model (2531.80), I figure that, while saving a few bucks, the PO would be a nice addition to my collection. The watch I had in mind was the "Big Size" PO, which is 45.5mm. My seamaster (I believe is 40mm) is a great size, but I wanted to try something a big bigger. I went to a Rolex AD a few weeks ago, and tried on a SD. I loved the watch, but I didn't want to stop there, I wanted to "test drive" other watches as well.

I will use the watch as my everyday wearer, and leave the SMP for special occasions. Being that I work in retail, she'll see some action :) That's also why I was thinking of getting her with a rubber strap, instead of a bracelet (so I won't scratch the heck out of the bracelet).

So then, the PO would survive as a good daily watch ? The only time I would take it off is the shower.

Thanks for all the responses for far :)

I think the Rolex has the better movement - you can't beat a cal.3135. Also I'm not a big fan of Omega's implementation of a helium escape value. But. . . the PO is a beautiful watch, especially the 45.5mm version. The 42mm version actually wears smaller than the 41mm SmP. My choice would be the Sea Dweller if money was not a factor, but I wouldn't feel cheated if I had a PO.

just bought a pre-owned 45mm PO orange bezel last night. here's my thots: it's HUGE, has presence and imho, it's definitely more value for money compared to the SD which I bought in Jan 2008. i'll be honest, rollies are way over-priced these days and that's why i stopped my quest for a polar exp-II.

as for the AR, so far so good. no problems whatsoever at the moment.

here's a lousy wristshot

I've had my 42mm Blk on Blk PO for 6 weeks. I enjoy the weight and mass of this watch. It is completely legible in all lighting situations. Unfortunately, my beloved Sub no-date has an annoying glare from over head lighting. The exterior AR coating of the PO makes the crystal all but disappear. I don't baby this watch, but I do use common sense and take it off before working on my car or the lawn mower.
I would recommend that you get the bracelet with the purchase of the watch and then order the rubber strap later. The PO is one beautiful watch and when you see it on your wrist, you'll know what I mean.

They are from the same line but still different enough.

I love em all!

The PO is thick, but it's so marvelous to stare at. I love all the AR coating.

Was in the market for a sub or sea dweller and ended up with PO 45.5
No regrets. Like the rubber strap for daily wear as not so scratch prone
